Step into the Lab: A Day in This Role

You roll into a fully equipped training lab where the day’s focus is medium-voltage cable preparation and termination. After a safety brief grounded in NFPA 70E, you demonstrate proper jacket stripping, semicon removal, stress cone assembly, and heat-shrink versus cold-shrink techniques. Trainees rotate through stations—motor and equipment wiring, switchgear terminations, torque verification—while you coach workmanship, troubleshoot issues in real time, and verify that every procedure aligns with the NEC, manufacturer specs, and field best practices. This is not a lecture hall job—it’s hands-on, practical, and results-driven.

What You’ll Lead
  • Deliver advanced, hands-on training for journeymen and experienced electrical craft professionals.
  • Guide practical labs in low-voltage systems (up to 1 kV), motor and equipment wiring, and medium-voltage (1–35 kV) cable termination, maintenance, testing, and inspection.
  • Demonstrate technical procedures step-by-step and supervise safe, repeatable execution.
  • Coach troubleshooting, workmanship quality, and code-compliant installation practices.
  • Evaluate practical performance and verify trainees can apply industry standards, manufacturer requirements, and quality expectations in realistic scenarios.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive electrical trade experience across industrial, commercial, infrastructure, power distribution, manufacturing, mission-critical, or similarly complex environments.
  • Journeyman electrician qualification, state electrical license, nationally recognized electrical craft credential, or equivalent documented trade experience and competency.
  • Field experience with low-voltage systems up to 1 kV, including cable installation, preparation, termination, testing, control wiring, equipment wiring, and inspection.
  • Field experience with medium-voltage systems from 1 kV to 35 kV, including MV cable construction, preparation, termination, equipment interfaces, testing, maintenance, or inspection.
  • Hands-on proficiency with mechanical and compression terminations; hydraulic, manual, and battery-powered crimpers; calibrated torque tools; heat-shrink and cold-shrink systems; and electrical taping methods.
  • Working knowledge of motors, motor terminations, motor control systems, switchgear, load centers, circuit breakers, transformers, control cabinets, and related power distribution equipment.
  • Strong command of NFPA 70E electrical safety and NFPA 70/NEC requirements for installation, termination, equipment, wiring, labeling, and inspection.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA electrical safety and relevant IEEE, NEMA, IEC, NETA, or manufacturer standards and practices.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment documentation, cable and termination specifications, test results, and manufacturer instructions.
Preferred Credentials and Experience
  • Journeyman, Master Electrician, or Electrical Contractor license (or equivalent documented competency).
  • NCCER Electrical Instructor Certification, NCCER Master Trainer, or equivalent skilled trades instructor credential.
  • NFPA 70E training/certification with demonstrated application of electrical safe work practices.
  • OSHA 30 (Construction or General Industry); OSHA 500/501 or comparable safety trainer experience is highly desirable.
  • NETA testing experience, NICET electrical power testing credentials, or documented acceptance/maintenance testing of electrical power equipment.
  • Manufacturer-specific training or field experience with MV termination systems, including heat-shrink and cold-shrink products.
  • Experience in cable testing (insulation resistance, HiPot), fault location, cable tracing, and interpretation of electrical test reports.
  • Experience with MV switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, pad-mounted equipment, underground distribution, and associated terminations/accessories.
  • Background with MCCs, reduced-voltage starters, relays, contactors, interlocks, auxiliary circuits, and motor control troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of NEMA/IP enclosure requirements, Roxtec or comparable cable-entry sealing, CGB fittings, environmental sealing, and hazardous-location installations.
  • Experience delivering competency-based, performance-based, or lab-intensive trades education.
  • Formal train-the-trainer, adult learning, technical education, apprenticeship instruction, or workforce development experience.
  • Leadership experience as a general foreman, electrical foreman, superintendent, electrical field engineer, commissioning technician, testing technician, or senior electrical trainer.
  • Support history on large-scale construction, infrastructure, industrial, energy, advanced manufacturing, or mission-critical projects.
