Since the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. In 2025 the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric, a subsidiary to Shimmick Construction. Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Operational Leadership & Execution

  • Lead and manage all field electrical construction activities across assigned projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality execution aligned with contract documents, budget, and schedule.
  • Oversee the full life-cycle of project delivery, including pre-construction planning, constructability review, installation, testing, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Serve as the primary on-site authority for all electrical scopes, coordinating with GCs, A/E teams, client field representatives, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site functions including engineering support, material control, installation crews, testing/commissioning teams, and I&C work.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion Shimmick and Axia Electric's culture of safety, ensuring strict adherence to all EHS programs, site protocols, and corrective action procedures.
  • Implement and maintain robust quality assurance/quality control systems; conduct inspections; verify workmanship meets or exceeds project specifications and industry standards to avoid any rework.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, construction bill of materials (CBOM) and technical documents to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance.

Project Management, Controls & Financial Oversight

  • Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules, look-ahead plans, manpower forecasts, and productivity tracking systems.
  • Oversee subcontractors and vendors, ensuring alignment with project requirements, timelines, and contractual obligations.
  • Support formal change management: evaluate change order requests, analyze field impacts, and provide accurate recommendations and justification.
  • Approve equipment rentals, major purchases, and requisitions to maintain cost control and operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with Project Managers on budget tracking, forecasting, risk management, and maintaining profitable work execution.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage equipment and ST&S inventory for assigned projects.

Technical Expertise & Field Problem Solving

  • Provide advanced technical guidance on electrical construction methods, specialized equipment, installation sequencing, testing protocols, and commissioning activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to power distribution, MCCs, switchgear, PLC/SCADA systems, instrumentation, and process control architecture.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve constructability, reduce risk, streamline installation, and enhance project performance.
  • Work with project team to plan, develop, and implement work packages for assigned projects

Leadership, Workforce Development & Team Culture

  • Manage, mentor, and develop electrical field teams- including superintendents, foremen, field engineers, and craft personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching, and support training initiatives to strengthen talent pipelines and ensure long-term workforce development.
  • Uphold company policies, work rules, and performance expectations, document and address violations promptly and professionally.

Client, Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, owners, municipalities, water districts, USACE, transit authorities, designers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Project Management, Engineering, Safety, Quality, Procurement, and Operations to ensure unified project delivery.
  • Represent Axia Electric at coordination meetings, contractor progress meetings, executive site walks, safety audits, and internal project reviews.

Strategic & Organizational Contribution

  • Support division leadership with strategic planning initiatives, long-range workforce forecasting, and resource optimization.
  • Contributes to the development of standardized installation methods, large material procurement, electrical commissioning protocols, safety initiatives, and best practices across Axia Electric's project portfolio.
  • Participate in corporate initiatives, training programs, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance operational excellence.
  • Help promote and expand Axia Electric's presence in key regional markets.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by the Division President, Project Executive, or Project Director.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalient +10 years of relevant experience experience in field construction supervision involving industrial electrical work including 2 years experience in the Assistant General Superintendent position or demonstrated equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering (BS in Electrical engineering preferred), or related field.
  • Progressive electrical construction experience within industrial, heavy civil electrical related, water/wastewater, transportation, shore power, or other large-scale infrastructure sectors.
  • Current OSHA 10.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, large-scale electrical projects and/or multiple smaller projects concurrently while maintaining operational excellence.
  • Strong capability to support strategic initiatives including long-range planning, client engagement, competitive positioning, and partnership strategies for key market pursuits.
  • Demonstrated leadership in establishing and maintaining consistent policies and procedures within your area of responsibility, while collaborating with peer leaders to foster a unified, one-team culture.
  • Extensive experience developing, coaching, and mentoring project staff in contract administration, cost control, scheduling, field management, risk mitigation, and contract negotiations.
  • Ability to help promote and expand Axia Electric's regional market presence through relationship building, high-quality project execution, and strong industry engagement.
  • Experience building and sustaining productive working relationships with local IBEW unions.
  • Capability to support Project Managers in driving project profitability, schedule performance, and contractual compliance.
  • Proven track record of training and developing project teams in foundational skills such as cost controls, scheduling best practices, field operations, contract administration, and negotiation strategies.

The salary range for this position is between $175,000- $225,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.
