The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently seeking passionate, motivational, and experienced Group Fitness Instructors to lead our Strength, Cardio, Spin, Step, or Les Mills BODYPUMP classes between the hours of 6:00AM and 12:00PM; and 7:00PM to 8:30PM.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization, just 5 miles west of New York City in the waterfront city of Perth Amboy, NJ. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912. We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility.
Under the guidance of the Senior Program Director, the Fitness Instructor will guide individuals or groups through safe and effective exercise routines tailored to their fitness levels and goals. They motivate, educate, and ensure proper form to help members improve their health, strength, and overall well-being.
The Fitness Instructor supports and promotes the organization's mission by embodying the core values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect, and Faith, while demonstrating cause-driven leadership through the YMCA Leadership Competencies: Mission Advancement, Collaboration, Operational Effectiveness, and Personal Growth.
Essential functions include:
  • Prepare equipment before class and ensure it is cleaned and stored afterward.
  • Lead group fitness classes with a focus on proper form, technique, and safety.
  • Inspire and encourage participants to reach their fitness goals in a positive, supportive environment.
  • Offer modifications to accommodate all fitness levels and individual needs.
  • Bring energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism to every session.
  • Observe participants' performance and provide constructive feedback as needed.
  • Support the promotion of additional fitness programs and services offered by the department.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Group Fitness Instructor Certification (ACE, AFAA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Previous experience leading group fitness classes.
  • Solid understanding of fitness techniques, anatomy, and safety practices.
  • Strong ability to engage, motivate, and build positive rapport with participants.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Physically able to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and handle gym equipment as needed.

Salary Description
$20 to $30 per hour
