Position Description

The Department of Public Health & Health Science at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites highly qualified, motivated, and wellโ€‘organized applicants for a pool temporary of partโ€‘time teaching appointments.

Department of Public Health & Health Science

Department of Public Health & Health Science has nearly 700 majors and is housed within the College of Health, Human Services and Nursing. This dynamic and rapidly growing program offers a B.S. degree in Health Science with concentrations in Community Health, Healthcare Management, and Radiologic and Imaging. A masterโ€™s degree in Public Health (MPH) program is currently under development for implementation in 2027. We are particularly interested in hiring qualified instructors with expertise in Radiologic and Imaging technology to support and expand the B.S. concentration area.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Public Health & Health Science is to: strengthen studentsโ€™ intellectual capacities and abilities to develop and mobilize human and institutional resources and services to meet the health needs of diverse individuals and populations, as well as the communities in which they reside.

Educate students in developing and implementing evidenceโ€‘based assessment and intervention models that improve the biopsychosocial health of diverse individuals and populations, as well as the communities in which they reside.

Prepare scholarโ€‘practitioners to engage in multidisciplinary scientific inquiry that advances the knowledge base of research and practice in the health disciplines.

Prepare graduates who will be leaders in their fields and professions to inform and influence professional dialogues on key health issues affecting diverse individuals and populations, as well as the communities in which they reside.

Prepare scholarโ€‘activists who -- with a global consciousness and ecosystemic perspective -- are committed to attaining health equity and collective wellโ€‘being through the promotion of human development, universal human rights, and social justice.

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled based on student enrollment and authorized funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in midโ€‘December; the Spring term begins midโ€‘January and ends in midโ€‘May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching, course preparation, syllabus preparation, academic advising, and career advising.

Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • A Masterโ€™s degree in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A doctorate in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience at the college or university level and who can furnish evidence of strong teaching.
  • Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
Employment Requirement

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Additional Information

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most newly hired lecturers are placed at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
