    Southern's Department of Curriculum and Learning seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the initial certification teacher preparation programs and the graduate MS program in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on pedagogical theory, curriculum development, instructional design, and teacher education. Additional responsibilities include student teaching supervision and advising students.
    Required Qualifications
    • Earned doctorate or ABD (must earn doctorate by end of first year of appointment, May 2027) in curriculum and instruction, teacher education, student assessment and accountability, educational studies, or related field,
    • Minimum 3 years full time relevant prek-12 teaching experience,
    • Evidenced ability to teach university level courses in curriculum development and instructional design,
    • Evidenced potential in leadership within teacher education programs,
    • Experience working with diverse populations and designing and delivering culturally sustaining and transformative pedagogies,
    • Strong demonstrated potential for scholarly activity leading to peer-reviewed publications, external grants or other support, and conference presentations.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience teaching in schools that serve diverse student populations,
    • Literacy instructor experience, aligned to Science of Reading, including reading specialist certification
    • Evidence of potential for leadership and collaborative engagement with school and community organizations,
    • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching on campus and online instructional modalities,
    • Experience engaging in the process of educational program assessment and improvement, preferably as it relates to program accreditation,
    • Experience as a university student teacher supervisor or educational coach.
