The Door was established in 1972 with the vision of creating an innovative youth development model to address the complex needs of young New Yorkers. Today, we serve up to 9,000 young people annually across our four New York City locations, including our lower Manhattan and South Bronx youth centers and two supportive housing sites on the Lower East Side. Broome Street Academy (BSA), a charter high school embedded at The Door, enrolls up to 250 students, and prioritizes applicants who are experiencing housing instability or have been involved in the child welfare system. The wraparound supports provided in partnership with The Door promote student success in school and in life.

Position Overview:

The Director of Institutional Giving is a senior member of the Advancement team responsible for the day-today operations of The Door's Institutional Giving program. Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement and External Engagement, the Director directly supervises supervision three grant managers while serving as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of foundation, corporate, and government funders, generating approximately $8 million in annual revenue for The Door and Broome Street Academy. The ideal candidate is an experienced people manager, accomplished fundraiser, exceptional writer and editor, and collaborative leader who thrives in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Institutional Giving Operations

· Manage the day-to-day operations of the Institutional Giving team, including coaching and developing three Grant Managers through regular supervision and project management

· Oversee team workflow and the institutional fundraising calendar, ensuring proposals, reports, stewardship activities, and other deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule

· Draft, review, and edit grant proposals, reports, letters of inquiry, budgets, and donor communications to ensure consistently high-quality submissions

· Ensure the team’s timely delivery of high-quality proposals, reports, and stewardship activities

Portfolio & Relationship Management

· Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 30–40 private and public institutional funders, serving as the primary relationship manager and securing renewed and new investments in support of The Door's mission and strategic priorities

· Coordinate funder meetings, site visits, convenings, and other engagement opportunities, serving as a primary point of contact for foundation program officers and institutional partners

· Identify prospective funding opportunities and develop cultivation strategies that expand and diversify the organization's institutional funding base

· Support annual institutional revenue planning, pipeline management, fundraising forecasting, and portfolio strategy.

Additional Responsibilities

· Oversee grant administration activities, including budget development, financial reporting, grant tracking, and compliance, in partnership with the Institutional Giving team, Finance, and program leadership.

· Ensure institutional funding is managed in accordance with funder requirements, organizational policies, and reporting deadlines

· Contribute to building a collaborative, high-performing team culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and shared success

· Support initiatives, campaigns, and special projects across the advancement team, as needed

· Stay informed about philanthropic trends and emerging funding opportunities relevant to The Door's mission

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

· Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible institutional fundraising experience, including foundation, corporate, and government grants

· Minimum of 2–3 years of staff supervision and team leadership experience

· Demonstrated success managing institutional fundraising portfolios and achieving revenue goals

· Experience developing grant budgets and collaborating with Finance on financial reporting and grant management

· Outstanding writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

· Exceptional organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships across departments and with external partners

· Experience using Raiser's Edge or comparable donor database preferred

· Commitment to The Door's mission and to advancing equity and opportunity for young people

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: $100,000 - $120,000 commensurate with experience, plus generous benefits package

Work Schedule: Full time, Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week
