Job description

Position Summary

A Sheet Metal Helper assists skilled sheet metal workers in fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal products such as ductwork and HVAC systems. This role is designed for individuals learning the trade while performing hands-on labor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist sheet metal mechanics with cutting, bending, and shaping sheet metal 
  • Carry, load, and unload materials, tools, and equipment 
  • Measure and mark sheet metal for cutting or installation 
  • Help install HVAC ductwork, vents, and related components 
  • Operate basic hand tools and power tools under supervision 
  • Clean and prepare job sites and work areas 
  • Hold, position, or secure materials during installation 
  • Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE (hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, etc.) 
  • Support fabrication tasks in a shop environment when needed 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred but not always required) 
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team 
  • Basic math and measurement skills (tape measure reading is important) 
  • Physical stamina for lifting heavy materials and standing for long periods 
  • Willingness to learn trade skills 
  • Reliable transportation to job sites
