Vertical Chimney Care is a trusted chimney cleaning and repair company serving the Chicagoland area for over 40 years. Based in Elmhurst, IL, we pride ourselves on quality workmanship and excellent customer service. We are currently seeking a motivated full-time Chimney Apprentice to join our dedicated team and begin a rewarding career in this skilled trade.

Job Description:
As a Chimney Sweep Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced, certified Chimney Sweeps, supporting them on their daily service routes. This hands-on role provides exposure to all aspects of chimney inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repair. Daily responsibilities will vary depending on the job site and will be assigned and supervised by the lead Chimney Sweep. The position requires physical comfort with heights, climbing ladders, and working in tight or dusty spaces. Work environments include both indoor and outdoor settings, such as rooftops and customer homes. This role is ideal for individuals interested in learning a skilled trade through direct mentorship and on-the-job experience.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean and load trucks with equipment and parts
  • Assist in preparing materials for daily routes
  • Prepare for work that will be done at customers’ homes: setting up tarps, organizing tools, setting up ladders, setting up safety equipment such as harnesses, and cleaning out vacuums
  • Assist with cleaning fireplaces and learning the inspection process
  • Assist with running gas lines when directed
  • Assist with chimney liner installations
  • Assist with furnace liner installations and the removing of existing liners
  • Assist with dryer vent cleanings
  • This individual will need to be comfortable with being on ladders and roofs
  • Study to eventually become a Certified Chimney Sweep
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • This is a great opportunity for someone to learn about our business and pass the exam to be a certified Chimney Sweep within 1 to 2 years!
  • This individual may on occasion assist in servicing and installing retractable awnings.
Job Information:
  • Hours: Monday Thru Saturday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
    • Days Off: Sundays and one assigned weekday (staggered to ensure full team coverage)

  • Pay Range: $18.50/hr
