Job description

A-1 is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Electrician or Millwright to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment within our industrial plant. This role is crucial to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all plant manufacturing machinery and infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision, perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic systems, wiring, fixtures, apparatus, control equipment, and perform related work as required.

  • Determine the existence of electrical hazards and problems. Safely isolate, ground, and prepare circuits and electrical apparatus to enable repairs. 
  • Have knowledge of and use the required personal protective equipment to protect against arc flash and shock. 
  • Troubleshoot and maintain motor control centers, motor start circuits, control loops, generators, high voltage switchgear, protective relaying, and related equipment. 
  • Install electrical conduit, pull, and terminate wiring. 
  • Ability to use electrical/electronic testing equipment to such as multi-meters, ammeters, meg-ohm meters, high potential testers, oscilloscopes, or digital probes to troubleshoot and repair equipment. 
  • Use hand and power tools related to the electrical trades. 
  • Install and maintain control and distribution equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breakers, and control panels. 
  • Install and maintain drive systems such as variable frequency drives, eddy current, and DC drives. Install and maintain programmable logic control systems (PLC). 
  • Interpret and/or modify PLC control logic as necessary. Install and calibrate pressure, temperature, flow, and level controls. 
  • Observe installed systems to detect hazards and determine the need for adjustments or modifications. 
  • Design layout work on panels, set up complex control systems, interpret and alter engineering drawings and wiring diagrams. 
  • Repair or replace faulty electrical equipment, including electronic controls, meters, outlets, and panels. 
  • Effectively communicate problems and solutions to resolve electrical problems. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school, general education diploma, or trade school.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment with related training. Relevance of experience will be determined based on similar equipment, procedures, and job functions.
  • Considerable knowledge of the approved methods, practices, code requirements and safety standards, including equipment, tools and materials of the trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of electrical systems, including high-voltage switchgear, protective relaying, grounding procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, safety procedures, and electrical test equipment.
  • Good knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of electronics and instrumentation.
  • Ability to use engineering drawings, schematics, and service manuals to troubleshoot, install, and repair equipment.
  • Ability to perform arithmetical and algebraic calculations.
  • Ability to maintain records and report on work accomplished.
  • Skill in the use of electrical equipment and tools.
  • Some knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in general maintenance work.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to perform strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work unscheduled hours during emergency and/or unusual situations
  • (24 hours/ 7 days week).
  • Travel to other A-1 locations as needed

Work Environment

  • This role operates in a manufacturing environment where you must adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Job may include call-in work (24 hour/7-day week) during emergency or unusual situations.
  • Exposure to usual noise associated with equipment and plant environment.
  • Exposure to potential electrical hazards.
  • Exposure to atmospheric conditions such as heat, cold, dust, fumes, vapors, or mists.

  • Perform strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.
