Summary/Purpose
Follows detailed procedures for removing and installing tooling as required to assemble various bearings. Must troubleshoot machines and related tooling to produce parts that meet specifications.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Maintain and continuously improve 5S within the department.
  • Set-up assembly machines accurately and in a timely manner to produce quality parts at or above the standard PPM rate.
  • Modify assembly machine recipes, with allowable limits, as required to achieve proper part specifications.
  • Perform minor modifications to tooling as required to achieve proper part specifications.
  • Adjust as needed to ensure that machines continue to produce quality parts at or above the standard PPM rate, for the duration of the run.
  • Understand and react properly to metallurgical properties of bearings produced by the assembly machines.
  • Operate assembly machines while operators are on break, or as otherwise required.
  • Set-up and operate gauges to measure parts, ensuring parts are being produced to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machines and tooling to fix problems with non-conforming product.
  • Make timely decisions regarding quality problems according to established Stop-Call-Wait procedures.
  • Submit suggestions to drive continuous improvement of quality and efficiency.
  • Direct operators as needed in the absence of the team leader or technician.
  • Operate the Shinsen Jig Market as required.
  • Work to continuously improve changeover times, without negatively impacting part quality or machine PPM rate.
  • Determine whether quality issues are the result of incoming components or are internal to the department and react accordingly.

  • No supervisory responsibilities

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must possess excellent mechanical skills including ability to skillfully operate various tools and machinery.
  • Must possess strong logical problem solving skills.
  • Must have strong mathematical skills in regards to computations involving decimals and fractions.
  • Must have effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as required.
  • Must have demonstrated strong work ethic and evidence of continuous improvement in past job performance.
  • Must have a team oriented attitude and have demonstrated a willingness to do what is best for the company.

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous job related mechanical experience is required (Assessment will be given)

  • Work is performed in a normal manufacturing area.
  • This position has an exposure to moderate noise levels, moving mechanical parts, electrical power distribution and controls, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, steam distribution and generation, water, various types of lubricants, chemical and wash baths, extreme heat, mechanical machine operation, etc.
  • Will be regularly required to climb, stand, sit, and reach with hands, fingers, and arms.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching are required.
  • This position requires regular lifting of work up to 40 pounds, and push or pulling work up to 125 pounds with proper equipment
