Yards Brewing Company has been proudly brewing in the City of Brotherly Love since 1994. We have grown from a garage-sized operation to our newest location - a 70,000 square foot state-of-the-art brewery and taproom - at 500 Spring Garden Street. Philadelphia Pale Ale, Yards Signature IPA and Brawler, all nationally recognized ales, lead a balanced portfolio of quality, handcrafted beers including several seasonal and limited releases, along with our First Draft innovation series. About the Role:

The Brewer II is responsible for executing and supporting brewing operations in a high-volume, automated production brewery. This role requires strong process control capability, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to operate both automated brewhouse systems and manual brewing processes. The Brewer II is expected to operate with a high level of independence and support overall brewhouse performance, quality, and throughput.

Core Responsibilities:

Brewhouse & Process Operations

  • Operate automated brewhouse systems using Siemens Braumat
  • Execute brew recipes while monitoring critical process parameters:
    • Temperature
    • Flow rates
    • Timing
    • Gravities
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and respond to process alarms and deviations
  • Adjust processes as needed to maintain product quality and consistency

Cellaring & Production Support

  • Perform transfers, carbonation, and tank management (FVs and BBTs)
  • Support filtration and downstream readiness for packaging
  • Ensure all beer meets release specifications (ABV, carbonation, flavor, color)
  • Coordinate with Packaging, QA, and Warehouse teams to support production flow

CIP, Sanitation & Cleaning

  • Execute and verify CIP cycles for:
  • Fermentation Vessels (FVs)
  • Bright Beer Tanks (BBTs)
  • Verify chemical concentration, temperature, flow rates, and cycle times
  • Perform manual cleaning (COP) and maintain sanitary conditions
  • Coordinate shared CIP system usage across departments

Quality, SOPs & Documentation

  • Follow and support the development of SOPs
  • Accurately record batch and process data
  • Monitor and communicate critical control points
  • Support QA/QC sampling and verification processes

Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot process and equipment issues
  • Communicate effectively with Maintenance for issue resolution
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within brewing operations

Experience & Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in brewing, food & beverage, manufacturing, or production environment
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • CIP/COP systems
    • Sanitation practices
    • Brewing and fermentation fundamentals
  • Experience operating PLC-based or automated systems (experience with Siemens Braumat strongly preferred)
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and sanitation standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Brewing or related field
  • Experience with wine tasting and production
  • Knowledge of craft beer trends and industry developments
  • Forklift and/or scissor lift certification (or ability to obtain)

Physical Requirements

Work Schedule & Availability

  • This is a full-time, production-based role supporting a multi-shift brewing operation
  • Standard schedule: 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of weekends and overnight shifts.
  • Schedules (including overnights) may vary based on production needs, including 10-hour shifts.
  • Start times may vary based on production requirements (including early mornings)
  • Flexibility is required to support:
    • Overtime as needed based on production demands
    • Occasional schedule adjustments to support brewing and packaging operations
    • Off-shift troubleshooting or process support as needed
