SummaryCardiac Catheterization Technician is responsible for performance of a variety of catheterization techniques for inpatients and outpatients, requiring knowledge of specialized angiocardiographic and analytical laboratory procedures
Responsibilities- Records Hemodynamic Pressures as required by Cardiologist according to department protocols.
- Attaches e-signals to patients to obtain vital signs and 02 saturations.
- Interprets and monitors electrocardiographic tracings, working in close cooperation with Cardiologist; reports immediately any change from normal.
- Calculates hemodynamic data.
- Operates equipment or provides electrical shock in event of onset of ventricular fibrillation or arterial fibrillation by assisting physician.
- Inspects equipment to ensure proper functioning; requisitions repair of apparatus and cleans equipment.
- Assists technologists in aseptic room clean up following procedures.
- Assists in preparation and maintenance of sterile angiographic trays for a variety of procedures.
- Works in close cooperation with nurses and radiologic technicians in a team effort during procedures to provide the best patient care. Participates in the CQI process.
- Assists in operating high pressure contrast injector; amount and rate of injection determined by Cardiologist.
- Develops physiologic recordings and film as requested by supervisor.
- Loads film magazines and physiologic recorders as requested by supervisor.
- Prepares and calibrates pressure transducers and recording devices.
- Records and maintains procedure logs according to departmental protocol.
- Initiates life supporting measures for patients if necessary.
- Complies with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures.
- Follows unit specific infection control standards.
- Follows unit specific infection control standards.
- Assists in routine duties including performance of hours, specialized procedures, cleaning and daily maintenance of area.
- Utilizes appropriate H.I.S. Computer System function for patient transport.
- Takes calls as scheduled.
Experience- Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education- Graduate from a two-year Cardiovascular program or an equivalent, such as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or Registered Radiological Technologist.
Credentials- Certification as a cardiovascular technician preferred.
- American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
Unit Specific Credential- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity
- AHA Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
