Job description

Injection Molding Tool Technician - Nights (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM) $27.00/hr.
Who we are looking for:
We are currently searching for Injection Molding Tooling Technician to be part of the Atkore Electrical Business Unit / Plastic Pipe & Conduit (PPC) Strategic Business Unit. Reporting to Molding Production Manager, the primary focus of this role is safely performing routine and preventive maintenance on injection mold and tooling components to ensure that molds are always ready for changeovers.
The ideal candidate will have minimum two (2) years of experience in molds and tooling of thermoplastics injection molding machines with minimum of high school degree or GED equivalent.
Who you'll do:
  • Tooling Maintenance & Repair
    • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on injection molds, and tooling components.
    • Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and rebuild molds as needed.
    • Diagnose wear, damage, or alignment issues and perform corrective actions.
    • Weld, polish, grind, and machine tooling surfaces to restore specifications.
    • Promptly complete incoming inspections of new and old molds that was sent out to tool shop for repair.
    • Work with molding production manager to purchase and maintain all tooling supplies inventory needed to carry out the tooling repair and maintenance operations.
    • Maintain critical spare parts lists, ensure adequate level of spare parts and component inventory & request to reorder when needed.
    • Prepare and submit order list of readymade components from PCS, DME, Progressive components, Globieus, Grainger & PPE like the sprue bushing, leader pins, ejector pins, water fittings, O ring etc. for the mold maintenance.
    • Work with tooling vendors to fix mold issues as directed by engineering.
    • Work on insert changes on family molds keep mold ready for the next production run in a timely manner
    • Review weekly production schedules and ensure mold PMs are promptly completed, and molds are machine ready for the scheduled run.
    • Maintain a clean, organized work area in line with 5S and company standards.
    • Safely handle, store, and transport molds and tooling.
    • Inspect molds that need repair and document them on mold issue reporting forms to escalate with molding process technician and engineering.
    • Fabricate or modify tooling components based on mold requirements like cutting ejector pins or small modifications with the help of maintenance
    • Verify dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring equipment.
    • Neatly arrange and label mold components ensuring all the parts are organized and clearly identified.
  • Troubleshooting & Production Support
    • Actively involve & assist with identifying root cause of mold performance or part-quality issues.
    • Document, communicate and escalate tooling concerns to molding process technician & engineering to address any mold issues that require overhaul, repairs by external vendors
    • Respond to Process technician requests requiring minor tooling adjustment, locating spare parts, pneumatic, electrical and hydraulic connections
  • Mold Setting Responsibilities
    • Work alongside experienced Injection Molding Mold Setters to learn mold changeover procedures.
    • Observe and participate in mold mounting, alignment, and press hookup processes under supervision.
    • Learn and follow safety procedures related to overhead cranes, rigging, hydraulics, and electrical connections.
    • Gain familiarity with molding machine controls, startup checks, and first-piece quality verification.

What you'll bring:
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience in an injection molding toolroom, machining, or mold-repair environment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of injection-molding tools and mechanical & hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, mold drawings, and precision measurements.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication processes lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM equipment is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with willingness to learn mold-setting procedures.
  • Ability to drive a forklift.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Good team player with growth mentality.

Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
