Infusion Center Rn information

What is an infusion center RN?

Infusion Center RNs are registered nurses who specialize in administering intravenous (IV) treatments, such as medications, fluids, and blood products, to patients in outpatient infusion centers. They are responsible for monitoring patients during infusions, managing IV lines, assessing for adverse reactions, and providing patient education. Infusion Center RNs often care for individuals undergoing treatments for chronic illnesses, cancer, autoimmune conditions, or infections. Their role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly to any complications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an infusion center RN?

To thrive as an Infusion Center RN, you need expertise in intravenous therapy, patient assessment, and medication administration, generally supported by an active RN license and experience in oncology or ambulatory care. Familiarity with infusion pumps, electronic health records (EHR), and safety protocols is typically required. Compassion, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for managing patient anxiety and coordinating with healthcare teams. These skills ensure safe, efficient treatment delivery and positive patient experiences in a specialized clinical environment.

What are some of the unique challenges faced by infusion center RNs, and how can new hires best prepare for them?

Infusion Center RNs often manage complex medication regimens and care for patients with serious conditions like cancer or autoimmune diseases, which can be emotionally demanding. They must be adept at IV insertion, monitoring for infusion reactions, and educating patients about their treatments. New hires can prepare by brushing up on IV therapy skills, staying current on medication protocols, and developing strong communication abilities to effectively support patients and collaborate with physicians and pharmacy staff. Building resilience and time management skills is also crucial, as the environment can be fast-paced and requires balancing multiple patients simultaneously.

Compensation can also vary based on experience, certifications, and geographic location, with some centers offering additional incentives for specialized training or certifications like chemo or IV therapy. Overall, their specialized role can lead to higher pay within the nursing field.

At CVS Health®, you’ll be surrounded by passionate colleagues who care deeply, innovate with purpose, hold ourselves accountable and prioritize safety and quality in everything we do. Join us and be part of something bigger – helping to simplify health care one person, one family and one community at a time.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), Home Infusion you will work outside the walls of a hospital setting in a growing specialized area of nursing. If you are spending 12 hours per day on your feet or rushing from patient to patient with no time to provide quality patient care, this would be the perfect opportunity to change your work environment.
Registered Nurses (RN) with Coram CVS/specialty infusion services use their exceptional nursing skills in a uniquely rewarding setting. As a national leader in the home infusion field we seek those special RNs who not only possess strong clinical expertise with creative ideas but who also have the kind of deep compassion and sensitivity it takes to treat people in their homes.
As a Home Infusion RN you will…
* Provide a broad range of infusion therapies in our patients’ homes
* Make a difference by using your clinical IV experience and personal touch to assist our patients recovering in the comfort of their own home.
* Provide one-on-one home infusion nursing care visits and patient education in accordance with the physician’s plan of treatment.
* Additional licensure may be required in multi-state service areas
* Must have excellent written and verbal customer service skills in order to interact with the patient, physician, pharmacist and other partners
* Must be willing to travel up to two hours each way, on occasion for a patient visit.
Challenge your clinical nursing (RN) skills by receiving continuous training on leading edge technology and clinical requirements in specialty infusion. Certification and recertification expenses, such as for Certified Registered Nurse of Infusion (CRNI®), can be reimbursed for eligible RNs.
Schedule:
* This is a flexible part-time schedule working approximately 25 hours/week.

* Hours can go into the evenings at times and weekend availability is welcomed!

* Telephonic on-call of 1-2 weeks per year. There are no in-person visits when on-call!

Coverage area:

* Strong IV insertion skills with a minimum of one year infusion/IV experience
* Have and maintain current CPR certification
* Possess a valid and current driver’s license and auto insurance
* Have experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook and Word to document and track patient care activity
* Participate in on call rotation as indicated by staffing and business needs
