Infrastructure Solutions Engineer information

What is an infrastructure solutions engineer?

Infrastructure Solutions Engineers are professionals who design, implement, and manage the foundational technology systems that support an organization's operations. They focus on ensuring that hardware, software, networks, and cloud services work together seamlessly to meet business needs. Their responsibilities often include evaluating technology requirements, developing scalable infrastructure solutions, troubleshooting complex issues, and optimizing system performance. By bridging the gap between technical requirements and business goals, Infrastructure Solutions Engineers play a crucial role in maintaining efficient and secure IT environments.

What are some common challenges infrastructure solutions engineers face when integrating new technologies into existing systems?

Infrastructure Solutions Engineers often encounter challenges related to compatibility and scalability when introducing new technologies into established IT environments. These challenges can include ensuring seamless integration with legacy systems, minimizing downtime during transitions, and maintaining robust security throughout the process. Successful engineers collaborate closely with network administrators, developers, and security teams to plan and test integrations, troubleshoot unexpected issues, and document solutions. Proactive communication and a thorough understanding of both old and new systems are key to overcoming these hurdles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an infrastructure solutions engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Infrastructure Solutions Engineer, you need a strong background in systems architecture, network administration, and cloud computing, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like VMware, AWS, Azure, scripting languages, and certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or AWS Certified Solutions Architect is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively make someone stand out in this role. These competencies ensure that complex infrastructure solutions are designed, implemented, and maintained efficiently to meet organizational needs.

What is the difference between Infrastructure Solutions Engineer vs Network Engineer?

AspectInfrastructure Solutions EngineerNetwork Engineer
CertificationsCCNA, Cisco certifications, cloud certificationsCCNA, CCNP, Cisco certifications
Work EnvironmentDesigning and implementing infrastructure solutions, working with cloud and on-premise systemsManaging and maintaining network hardware, troubleshooting network issues
Industry UsageIT, cloud providers, enterprise infrastructureTelecommunications, enterprise IT, data centers

While both roles involve networking and infrastructure, the Infrastructure Solutions Engineer focuses on designing comprehensive infrastructure solutions, including cloud integration, whereas the Network Engineer primarily manages and troubleshoots network hardware and connectivity. The roles often overlap but differ in scope and focus.

How much do infrastructure solutions engineers get paid?

Infrastructure Solutions Engineers typically earn a median annual salary ranging from $80,000 to $130,000, depending on experience, location, and certifications. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in cloud platforms or networking can earn higher salaries, often exceeding $150,000 annually.

Job description

C1 is the modern identity governance platform that makes it possible to move beyond the limitations of legacy IGA and reduce the identity attack surface with confidence. Designed for flexibility, C1 provides a broad range of direct connectors to integrate with cloud, infrastructure, on-prem, and homegrown tools. The platform’s Access Fabric brings together previously siloed access and permissions data from across a company’s environment. This provides real-time visibility and dynamic access controls that allow businesses to reduce identity risks, move to just-in-time access, automate access reviews, and manage the full identity lifecycle. The platform delivers intuitive user experiences that help teams get up and running faster, using powerful automation backed by AI to significantly improve productivity. C1 is trusted by forward-thinking enterprises like DigitalOcean, Instacart, NFI, Ramp, and Zscaler. For more information, visit conductorone.com.

C1 is looking for a Solutions Engineer to help drive customer adoption and success by delivering technical expertise, guiding customers through evaluations, and architecting secure, scalable identity and access management solutions.

We are seeking people who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working directly with customers to understand their needs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance our platform. If you're passionate about identity security, automation, and making access management seamless for enterprises, we'd love to hear from you.

What you’ll do:
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to prospects and customers on identity governance, authentication, authorization, and access control strategies.

  • Architect and deliver technical solutions spanning IGA, IAM, CIEM, and PAM, mapping business requirements into scalable identity architectures.

  • Lead workshops, whiteboard sessions, and demos that showcase the business value of identity automation, access governance, and zero trust.

  • Design and implement integration strategies across AWS, GCP, and Azure, with a strong understanding of native identity services, policies, and entitlement models.

  • Nerd out on protocols and standards like SAML, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SCIM, and FIDO2 — and explain them to both engineers and CISOs.

  • Build, test, and troubleshoot custom integrations and workflows using APIs, SDKs, and Terraform/automation frameworks.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends (IGA, CIEM, Just-in-Time access, Zero Trust, identity for machine/non-human accounts) and share thought leadership with internal teams and customers.

You would be an excellent candidate if….
  • 1-3 years in a technical pre-sales, solutions engineering, or identity architect/engineer role, OR equivalent hands-on experience in IAM/IGA/AI.

  • Foundational understanding of authentication, authorization, identity services (Okta, Entra AD, LDAP, Google Workspace), and cloud IAM basics.

  • Practical knowledge of directory services (Okta, Entra ID, LDAP, Google Workspace, on-prem AD).

  • Hands-on cloud experience with AWS IAM/IAM Identity Center, GCP IAM, and Azure AD/role-based access models, including how to govern them with IGA.

  • Comfort with GO, APIs, SDKs, JSON/YAML, scripting, and automation, Terraform or similar IaC tools.

  • Great communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Curiosity about identity security and drive to deepen technical knowledge over time.

  • Willingness to travel for customer meetings, partner events, or industry conferences.

Extra Credit if …
  • Industry-recognized certifications (CCSP, CISSP, AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)

  • You enjoy building new things and presenting new ideas.

  • You love helping customers understand and solve their access management challenges.
