Job description

Job Summary
Midland Standard Engineering & Testing, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (PE) to lead and support geotechnical investigations and deliver practical, constructible recommendations. This role includes evaluating soil, rock, and groundwater conditions; performing analyses; and preparing clear reports that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective design and construction. You will collaborate with clients, designers, and field/lab teams from initial investigation through construction.
Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare geotechnical reports and technical memoranda, including conclusions and recommendations.
  • Plan and oversee subsurface investigations (drilling, sampling, and field testing) and coordinate laboratory testing.
  • Analyze subsurface data to support design decisions (e.g., bearing capacity, settlement, lateral earth pressures, slope stability, and deep foundations).
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, design engineers, and field/lab staff to support scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Conduct site visits and provide construction-phase support, including response to field conditions and RFIs, as needed.
  • Communicate geotechnical considerations during design and construction, translating technical concepts into clear guidance for project teams.
  • Develop recommendations for:
    • Residential, commercial, and industrial developments
    • Retaining walls, slopes, and earth retention systems
    • Infrastructure (roads, bridges, and utilities)
    • Energy and critical facilities (solar, wind, substations, and treatment plants)
    • Stormwater management and pavement/roadway projects
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • 5+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation and standard office software (MS Office).
  • Ability to perform site visits and occasional field work as needed.
