Role Overview:
A large state government agency is undertaking a major initiative to modernize its core operational platforms and digital services. We are seeking an experienced IT Program Manager to lead day-to-day program coordination, oversee multiple vendor teams, and drive the timely delivery of key modernization milestones leading up to a large-scale system go-live.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead planning, execution, and monitoring of a highly complex IT modernization project, solving problems and driving action across the organization.
Develop and maintain integrated program schedules, track milestones, and execute risk mitigation strategies aligned with go-live timelines.
Coordinate activities and manage dependencies across various workstreams, vendor delivery teams, agency readiness groups, and federal certification requirements.
Monitor vendor progress, track budgets, and ensure timely resolution of development issues, defects, and delivery risks.
Coordinate operational readiness, including data migration, system and user acceptance testing, go-live dry runs, and organizational change management (training deployment).
Facilitate regular status meetings, steering committee updates, and present transparent reporting on project risks and strategies to executive leadership.
Required Skills & Experience:
10+ years of experience managing large-scale IT modernization or enterprise system implementation projects.
10+ years of experience working with multi-vendor delivery environments and state/public sector technology governance frameworks.
10+ years of experience coordinating development, system testing, data migration, and implementation readiness activities.
Strong knowledge of Agile, hybrid, or iterative software delivery methodologies.
Active Project Management Professional (PMP) or PMI-ACP certification.
Active Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Public Administration, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred Skills:
Experience managing government technology modernization initiatives (e.g., unemployment insurance, workforce systems, or human services).
Experience with federal certification processes and operational readiness expectations.
Experience managing cloud-based or enterprise platform implementations.
Additional Details:
This role requires local candidates in the Metro Atlanta area for a standard 40-hour work week on a hybrid schedule. Active PMP and PgMP certifications are strictly required and must be verifiable.
