What You'll Do
As a Radiology Tech Assistant, you will provide direct assistance to technologists and imaging staff by transporting and preparing patients, supporting imaging workflows, and maintaining supplies and equipment. This position also assists with imaging clerical operations by managing PACS, Cerner, and other imaging systems to ensure accurate, efficient, and compliant image handling and patient registration processes. This position reports to the coordinator of the respective modality. The role interacts regularly with internal and external customers to ensure exceptional service, efficient patient flow, and adherence to departmental standards and hospital policies.
Radiology Tech Assistant Job Responsibilities:
  • Safely transport, prepare, and support patients during imaging procedures while following patient identification, safety, comfort, and confidentiality protocols.
  • Assist with patient positioning, monitoring equipment, oral contrast administration, IV starts, and use of proper lifting and safety techniques.
  • Register patients and maintain accurate demographic, insurance, scheduling, authorization, and payment information using hospital systems such as Cerner, TeleTracking, and FirstNet.
  • Coordinate patient flow, pre-certifications, verification of benefits, and communication with patients, providers, and referring offices.
  • Operate and maintain imaging informatics systems including PACS, Volpara, and Cerner PowerChart to ensure accurate imaging, documentation, and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with technologists, radiologists, providers, and IT teams to resolve workflow or system issues and improve operational efficiency.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties including answering phones, maintaining records, preparing reports, and supporting departmental projects and training.
  • Support emergency readiness by understanding code protocols, emergency activation procedures, and assisting during emergency or stroke activations.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, infection control, safety standards, departmental policies, annual competencies, and ongoing professional education.
  • Provide professional, compassionate, and world-class service while supporting departmental quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.

What You Bring
As a Radiology Tech Assistant, you will demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Maintains proficient computer literacy and accurate data entry skills while delivering exceptional customer service and exercising sound judgment and decision-making abilities. Capable of troubleshooting basic technical and workflow issues to support efficient department operations. IV skills are preferred, with on-the-job training provided and competency required within three months, including annual revalidation.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One to three years of related experience preferred, ideally within a healthcare or radiology setting.
  • Experience with computer systems and imaging informatics platforms preferred (Cerner, PACS, Volpara, TeleTracking).
  • Understanding of DICOM language and radiology terminology preferred.
