Job description
Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWCC) seeks a qualified and customer-focused Network Technician to support the College's technology infrastructure and end users. The Network Technician provides technical assistance to faculty and staff by troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, network, and communications-related issues. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, relocating, upgrading, and repairing personal computers and peripheral equipment across campus offices and classrooms.
The Network Technician also assists with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network-connected systems, including access control systems, audio-visual equipment, security camera systems, and VoIP telephone services. Additional responsibilities may be assigned to support the operational needs of the Information Technology Department.
This position is based at the Senatobia campus but may require travel and periodic support at other NWCC locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365 applications, system configuration, and software installation.
- Experience repairing and maintaining personal computers and printers.
- Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between campuses as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Computer Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- One (1) or more years of professional experience in an information technology environment may be considered in lieu of an associate degree.
- Experience working in a TCP/IP Ethernet switched network environment.
- Experience supporting VoIP systems, security cameras, access control systems, and audio-visual technologies.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide technical support to faculty and staff by troubleshooting hardware, software, network, and communications-related issues.
- Install, configure, maintain, relocate, upgrade, and repair personal computers and peripheral equipment in offices, classrooms, and other campus locations.
- Configure and deploy operating systems, software applications, and technology devices.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure and communications equipment.
- Support and troubleshoot access control systems, security cameras, audio-visual equipment, and VoIP phone systems.
- Assist with technology projects, equipment inventories, and campus technology upgrades.
- Respond to service requests and document work completed according to departmental procedures.
- Maintain effective communication with users and provide timely resolution of technical issues.
- Travel to and support other NWCC campuses as assigned.
- Follow established safety procedures and Information Technology standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Network Operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, peripheral devices, and software applications.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Knowledge of fundamental networking concepts, including TCP/IP, Ethernet switching, wireless networking, and network troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of VoIP telephone systems, security camera systems, access control systems, and audio-visual technologies is preferred.
- Ability to install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair desktop computers, laptops, printers, and related equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical problems efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, schematics, and documentation.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, testing equipment, ladders, and personnel lifts.
- Ability to install, terminate, label, and manage network and communications cabling.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical users.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- The work environment includes offices, classrooms, computer labs, telecommunications rooms, data closets, construction areas, and other campus facilities. The position requires frequent interaction with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and contractors while supporting technology services and infrastructure.
- Work may involve exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold, and varying environmental conditions when working in equipment rooms, ceiling spaces, outdoor locations, or construction areas. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to accommodate system maintenance, upgrades, special events, or emergency support needs.
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb while performing assigned duties.
- Climb ladders and safely operate personnel lifts at heights of up to 25-30 feet.
- Work above ceilings, below raised flooring, and in confined spaces when installing or maintaining technology infrastructure.
- Perform repetitive motions involving computer equipment, tools, and handheld devices.
- Distinguish colors and identify cables, wiring, and status indicators on network and communications equipment.
- Travel between campuses and transport equipment as needed.
- Maintain the physical capability to safely perform all essential functions of the position.
