Job Description

KPFF Seattle's Civil Engineering team plays a key role in delivering the site and infrastructure systems that power some of the most demanding missioncritical facilities in the world. We support the development of largescale data centers,ย industrial campuses,ย and research and development facilitiesย providing civil engineering solutions that prioritize performance, reliability, constructability, and resiliency.ย 

Our work spans early site feasibility and master planning through detailed design, permitting, and construction support. We collaborate closely with owners, architects, missioncritical engineers, contractors, and other disciplines to develop sites and infrastructure capable of meeting the operational requirements of industrial and hightech facilities.ย 

Located in downtown Seattle, our team is seeking a Civil Engineer withย 5-10ย years of experienceย to joinย our growing data center and industrial practice. In this role, you willย immediatelyย engage in fastpaced, realworld projects across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of complex civil systems.ย 

Responsibilities:ย 

  • Lead and support civil design for dataย centerย and industrial campuses, including site planning, largescale grading, utility design, and stormwater systems.ย 
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Civil 3D,ย AutoTurn, and other engineering tools to produce detailed drawings, conduct vehicle and equipment access studies, and support site engineering analyses.ย 
  • Prepare and review technical reports, drainage studies, feasibility assessments, and design narratives that communicate engineering recommendations for missioncritical facilities.ย 
  • Assistย with project coordination, helping manage schedules, budgets, and task assignments for multidisciplinary project teams.ย 
  • Support preparation of project proposals, scopes of work, and client deliverables.ย 
  • Collaborate with contractors, specialty consultants, and internal project teams to guide design implementation and resolve technical issues during construction.ย 
  • Build strong relationships with dataย centerย and industrial clients by understanding operational needs and delivering highly functional site solutions.ย 
  • Research and interpret jurisdictional codes, utility standards, and missioncritical requirements to inform design decisions.ย 
  • Supportย permittingย efforts, including coordination with regulatory agencies, localย jurisdictions, and utility providers.ย 
  • Conduct site visits to assess field conditions,ย monitorย construction progress, verify compliance, and improve constructability outcomes.ย 
  • Contribute to the development of resilient, efficient, and sustainable site infrastructure for industrial and hightech facilities.ย 
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices relevant to missioncritical and industrial development.ย 
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.ย 
  • 5+ย years of civil engineering experience under the supervision of a licensed PE.ย 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.ย 
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.ย 
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.ย 

Preferred Qualifications:ย 

  • Washington State PE license (Civil Engineering).ย 
  • Experience with dataย center, industrial,ย research and development,ย or largesite development projects.ย 
  • Familiarity withย electricalย and mechanicalย systemsย and their components.ย 
Additional Information

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project and construction sites may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
  • Traveling to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation:

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected annual salary for a qualified candidate is $95,000 - $120,000
