The Opportunity
South Bow is seeking an experienced Senior Indigenous Relations Advisor to support the delivery of Indigenous engagement across the footprint of the Prairie Connector Project, with a focus on Alberta and Saskatchewan. This role will lead respectful, timely, and meaningful engagement with Indigenous Nations, communities, and groups along the project footprint, ensuring concerns are understood, information is shared clearly, issues are advanced for resolution, and opportunities for Indigenous participation are identified throughout project development and execution.
The Senior Advisor will work closely with internal teams, Indigenous groups, community stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and communities to support consultation and engagement activities required for a federally regulated pipeline project. The role will help align engagement records, community feedback, commitments, and issue management with Canadian Energy Regulator expectations and South Bow's Indigenous Relations Policy.
This role may be based in Calgary or within communities located along the Prairie Connector Project footprint and requires regular travel throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.
What You'll Do
Serve as a senior field-facing Indigenous relations lead for a major pipeline infrastructure project across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Build and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with Indigenous Nations, communities, leadership, administrators, consultation offices, economic development corporations, and community representatives along the project footprint.
Plan and deliver engagement activities that keep communities informed about project scope, schedule, construction activities, potential effects, mitigation measures, and opportunities to provide input.
Listen to, document, and help advance Indigenous community interests, questions, concerns, and project-related issues through the appropriate internal project teams.
Support issue resolution by coordinating timely responses, tracking commitments, escalating risks, and ensuring follow-through on agreed actions.
Support the advancement of Indigenous economic participation opportunities, including procurement, contracting, employment, training, and capacity-building initiatives
Support Canadian Energy Regulator consultation and engagement requirements by maintaining accurate engagement records, commitments, evidence of follow-up, and issue tracking.
Provide senior advice to project leadership on Indigenous relations risks, opportunities, engagement strategy, community priorities, and potential effects on Indigenous rights and interests.
Collaborate with environment, land, regulatory, construction, legal, and communications teams to integrate Indigenous input into project planning, permitting, routing, mitigation, and execution decisions where appropriate.
Prepare briefing notes, engagement summaries, meeting materials, risk updates, and reports for internal project governance and regulatory processes.
Represent South Bow professionally in community meetings, open houses, leadership meetings, site visits, regulatory discussions, and project engagement forums.
Minimum Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, business, communications, environmental studies, public policy, law, natural resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
8+ years of progressive experience in Indigenous relations, consultation, engagement, or community relations, ideally within pipeline, energy, major infrastructure, natural resources, or construction environments.
Demonstrated experience supporting major project development or execution, including engagement with Indigenous Nations and communities affected by project planning, permitting, construction, or operations.
Strong understanding of Indigenous rights, Treaty rights, consultation expectations, regulatory engagement processes, and Indigenous participation in Canadian resource and infrastructure projects.
Experience supporting Indigenous engagement activities for federally regulated projects and working knowledge of Canadian Energy Regulator requirements.
Strong issue management, facilitation, negotiation, meeting management, documentation, and written communication skills.
Ability to translate community feedback and engagement outcomes into practical project advice, risk mitigation, and action plans.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Indigenous communities, project locations, and field offices across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience supporting federally regulated pipeline applications, construction projects, or major Canadian energy infrastructure projects.
Experience with Indigenous engagement, consultation, or capacity funding processes in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Experience identifying and advancing Indigenous contracting, employment, training, procurement, or equity-related opportunities on major projects.
Experience using engagement management, commitments tracking, CRM, or regulatory record-management systems.
