Job description

Overview

We are building a roster of qualified Hospitalist physicians to support day and night inpatient coverage at Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. This is a non-personal services engagement you'll practice medicine independently, integrated into PIMC's medical staff, without being a government employee. Shifts are available for both daytime and nighttime coverage, seven days a week including holidays.

Shift Options

Daytime Hospitalist

  • Shifts: 8-hour (7am3pm) and 11-hour (7am6pm)
  • Coverage 7 days/week, including holidays
  • Estimated 1030 shifts/month
  • No offsite call required

Nighttime Hospitalist

  • Shift: 13-hour (6pm7am)
  • Coverage up to 30 nights/month
  • Estimated 1530 shifts/month
  • No offsite call required
  • Physician must remain on-site for the full shift
What You'll Do
  • Admit and manage medical/surgical patients on the General Medicine wards and ICU
  • Evaluate Emergency Department patients for possible admission
  • Complete daily/nightly rounds on inpatients
  • Serve as a consulting resource to other PIMC providers
  • Perform inpatient procedures within your privileges (central lines, arterial lines, thoracentesis, paracentesis, lumbar puncture, skin biopsies)
  • Coordinate transfers, discharge planning, and specialty consultations
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation in the EHR
  • Collaborate with nursing, surgery, and specialty staff on patient care decisions
Qualifications
  • Completed residency in Internal Medicine or Family Practice (Family Practice candidates must demonstrate sufficient inpatient hospitalist training/experience)
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S., D.C., or Puerto Rico
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • 2+ years of hospital medicine experience preferred; strong new residency graduates considered case-by-case
  • Comfortable working within a culturally diverse patient population
  • Able to pass IHS-mandated security pre-clearance (fingerprint check and OIG exclusion list screening)
