Nexus Family Healing is hiring a part-time Speech and Language Pathologist to join our Safe Harbor School in Manteno, IL.


Safe Harbor School (SHS) is our very own private school that serves youth receiving treatment at Nexus-Indian Oaks. SHS serves grade levels 6 - 12, and students participate in a curriculum tailored to their unique needs and current grade level. The school provides a special education curriculum accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. Credits transfer to any school upon the client's discharge.


Work Schedule & Salary:

  • Part-Time / On Call, as needed on a year-round basis
  • Location:  101 N Bramble Street, Manteno, IL 60950
  • School hours:  Monday - Friday 7am - 3:30pm (both prescheduled & on call hours available)
  • Pay Range: $45 - $50 per hour based on experience and credentials


Position Summary: The Speech and Language Pathologist provides a treatment program for those clients whose ability to comprehend, articulate or communicate has been impaired by the developmental process, disease, or injury. Performs care according to the Speech/Language Practice Act and Agency policies and procedures. 

Primary responsibilities:


Treatment Planning & Therapy

  • Evaluate levels of speech, language, or swallowing difficulty 
  • Identify clients' goals for treatment 
  • Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan that addresses specific functional needs 
  • Teach clients how to make sounds, improve their voices, and maintain fluency 
  • Help clients improve vocabulary and sentence structure 
  • Work with clients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow 
  • Counsel clients and their families on how to cope with communication and swallowing disorders  
  • Conduct assessments, treatment plans, and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment integrated into classrooms, school-related activities, as well as via the pull-out model 
  • Co-treating and co-teaching options available, as well as individual and small group therapy models 
  • Work with a team of SLP’s, special educators, and other related service providers in a positive, collaborative, and engaging private, nonpublic school setting.
Requirements:

 Required Education and Licensure:

  • Masters in Speech-Language Pathology or Communicative Sciences and Disorders 
  • Must possess an active Illinois SLP license 
  • Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements 
  • Must successfully pass an IL DCFS criminal background check.
  • Must have the ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities and understand their unique needs and challenges.
  • Must be open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities, considering factors such as language, traditions, and values.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 2+ years’ experience in an educational or residential setting 
  • One (1) year of directly related experience 
  • CCC-SLP and ASHA certification

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours). 
  • Must be able to bend, twist and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within a residential program. 
  • Must be able to assist in proper restraining of residents.  
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance. 

Expected Hours of Work:  Days and hours of work throughout the week with the expectation to work specific schedules and hours as identified and communicated by management. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
