Job description

THE POSITION:

Gas Station Attendants play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our fuel stations and providing excellent service to our customers. This position requires a friendly and customer-focused individual who is attentive to detail and committed to maintaining a safe and clean environment.

The incumbents are responsible for: providing excellent service to customers by directing gas station traffic especially during the busy hours; assisting in fuel dispensing such as assisting customers in pumping fuel, if needed, ensuring pumps are functioning properly, and handle any issues that arise; maintaining the cleanliness outside of the gas station; helping customers with basic vehicle checks; and enforcing safety and compliance by following safety protocols when handling fuel and hazardous materials, monitor pumps, and report any safety hazards to management. 

The incumbents are expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council.

The current vacancy is for a regular, part-time position working less than 29 hours per week. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner as they arrive at the fuel station.
  • Guide and direct vehicles to appropriate pumps to keep the flow of traffic moving smoothly. 
  • Provide assistance to customers with special needs, such as elderly or disabled individuals, to ensure they receive prompt and courteous service.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks, such as checking fuel levels, cleaning fuel pumps, and replenishing supplies (e.g., paper towels, windshield washer fluid).
  • Monitor fuel inventory levels and coordinate with management to order refills as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures, including proper handling and storage of flammable materials.
  • Keep the fuel station premises clean and organized, including sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash bins.
  • Respond promptly to any customer inquiries, complaints, or issues, and escalate to management as necessary.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by management to support the overall operation of the fuel station.
  • May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Prior gas station or cashier experience preferred.

Other Requirements: 

  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (e.g., fuel hoses, cleaning equipment) and stand for extended periods and work in various weather conditions.


SUPERVISORIAL DUTIES: None


ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic car maintenance in checking fuel levels, cleaning fuel pumps, and fueling station;
  • Promote and support company image standards;
  • Comply with company meal and rest break policies;
  • Consistently report to work on time and in accordance with assigned work schedule;
  • Communicate with supervisors;
  • Present a neat, clean appearance in uniform;
  • Adhere to all federal and state regulations including verifying age with a valid I.D. for any age restricted sales;
  • Follow the work schedule as posted, unless a change in schedule is arranged with the Retail Store Manager or designee;
  • Stay familiar with the policies and safety protocols, and bulletins;
  • Ensure store management is made aware of any and all sales, cash, or operating discrepancies or problems;
  • Properly uses time clock, signs a timecard verifying all hours worked at the end of the pay period;
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all accidents immediately;
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos;
  • Ability to write correspondence;
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests and other team members;
  • Ability to add and subtract in order to make change, complete pay point reports, and account for numbers of a variety of products during vendor check-in;
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and quantity;
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Vision:  Incumbents in this class require to have close visual acuity, with or without corrections, to prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe, view a computer screen, read, etc. 
  • Hearing/Talking:  Incumbents in this class require to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.  Require the employee to express or exchange information or ideas by means of the spoken word.

  • While performing the duties of this job, incumbents work in outside and various weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high due to various types of vehicles and trucks.
  • Work schedules may at any time, as required by business operations, be adjusted for definite or indefinite periods of time so as to increase, decrease or otherwise change any non-exempt employee’s daily, weekly and/or shift hours of work and/or the days an employee will report for work.
  • Incumbents in this class may be subject to disruptive and confrontational people.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Drug Test and Background Checks: Will be subject to pre-employment drug testing background check prior to appointment and random drug testing during the employment.
