Familiarity with development frameworks, content management systems (CMS), version control tools like Git, and project management platforms is commonly required. What is an Independent Contractor Web Developer?

An Independent Contractor Web Developer is a self-employed professional who designs, builds, and maintains websites for clients on a contract basis rather than as a company employee. They typically work with multiple clients, manage their own schedules, and are responsible for handling their own taxes and business expenses. Their work can include front-end and back-end development, troubleshooting, and implementing web technologies based on client needs. Independent contractors often negotiate their rates and project scopes directly with clients and may work remotely or on-site depending on the agreement.

How does being an independent contractor web developer impact collaboration with clients and other team members?

As an independent contractor web developer, you often work remotely and manage your own schedule, which means proactive communication is essential. You’ll typically collaborate directly with clients, project managers, or designers through virtual meetings, emails, and project management tools. Building strong relationships and setting clear expectations helps ensure smooth project delivery. Additionally, you may work with other freelancers or agency teams, so being adaptable and responsive is key to successful collaboration.

Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a Mid-Level Full Stack Developer to build and maintain end-to-end web applications in a Microsoft-centric environment. This role focuses on delivering scalable backend services and responsive front-end interfaces while contributing to system design and engineering best practices. You will work independently on complex features and collaborate closely with engineering and product teams in an Agile setting. This position sits at the intersection of UI and backend engineering-delivering complete features from database to browser, while supporting system reliability, maintainability, and scalability within a Microsoft technology stack.
What You'll Do
  • Own features across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Build responsive and user-friendly front-end interfaces using JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Develop scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using C# and .NET Core / ASP.NET Core
  • Design and optimize SQL Server databases, including schemas, complex queries, and stored procedures (T-SQL)
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives
  • Conduct and participate in peer code reviews to maintain high code quality standards
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of architecture, tooling, and development practices

Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and professional software development experience
  • 4-6 years of experience in full-stack software development with strong Microsoft stack experience
  • Strong proficiency in C#, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and SQL (T-SQL)
  • Hands-on experience with ASP.NET Core / .NET Core, MVC, Web API, and Entity Framework
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft SQL Server and SSMS
  • Familiarity with Git, Visual Studio / VS Code, and work tracking tools like Azure DevOps or JIRA
  • Ability to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure SQL, Azure Functions)
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Familiarity with Docker or containerized deployments
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks such as NUnit or xUnit
