The National Ability Center is located on a 26-acre ranch in Park City, Utah. We have satellite offices at the base of Park City Mountain Resort (aka PCMR ski resort) and in Moab, Utah. We are looking for a Buildings and Grounds Technician to perform maintenance and complete projects pertaining to our buildings and grounds. The ideal candidate is self-motivated with a strong work ethic and has great mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform repetitive tasks with well-rounded experience in all aspects of building maintenance, grounds-keeping, and vehicle fleet management. Job Summary:

The Buildings and Grounds Technician is a key member of the National Ability Center's facilities department and is responsible for traditional facilities maintenance and improvement as well as related lodge facility hospitality needs, including but not limited to general building maintenance, landscaping, snow removal, project management, custodial work, and vehicle maintenance. This position is a full-time, year-round, in-person position with benefits, and it requires occasional weekend and after-hours work for projects and special events, as needed. This position is not eligible for remote work.


Essential Duties:

  • Maintains, repairs, and improves all facility structures personally, in support of the Buildings & Grounds team, or via contractor/vendor managed projects to include, but not limited to: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry/drywall, landscaping/ irrigation, basic custodial tasks, welding, soldering, concrete/masonry, vehicle/trailer repair, painting, roofing, pest control, heavy equipment operation.Β 
  • Ensures facility-related equipment operates efficiently and effectively to ensure the greatest return on investment.
  • Assist the Buildings & Grounds Manager in selecting contractors & vendors; oversees the projects and manages contracts, scheduling, and budgets.Β 
  • Develops strong vendor relationships to leverage corporate and community support and minimize expenses.
  • Ensures projects meet all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Works with the Buildings & Grounds team to remove snow (plow, shovel, etc.) as necessary for staff and guest winter access throughout the campus.
  • Works directly with volunteers to coordinate and supervise projects; ensures all related tools and materials are in place for project success.
  • Collaborates with and supports all departments for programs and events to ensure all facility, maintenance, and equipment needs are met.Β Β 
  • Provides basic custodial support to the office and program buildings, when necessary.
  • Assists with key fundraising events and other special events as needed to help advance program goals and support; serves as an ambassador and representative for the National Ability Center.


Requirements

Β Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 3 years of experience in construction, building maintenance, and/or grounds keeping.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Be able to maintain a Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) physical.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We do not sponsor employment visas or other immigration processes to attain or maintain employment eligibility. Β 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in many of the following areas: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry/drywall, landscaping/ irrigation, basic custodial tasks, welding, soldering, concrete/masonry, vehicle/trailer repair, painting, roofing, and pest control.Β 
  • Experience operating various maintenance-related heavy equipment and machinery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Problem solving basic mechanical issues & ability to work independently.
  • Expertise in fixing and maintaining equipment and facilities.
  • Demonstrates a reasonable level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
  • Ability to trouble shoot a variety of equipment and systems related issues as needed.
  • Ability to operate hand & power tools safely and proficiently.
  • Ability to use step & extension ladders up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to operate heavy facilities and maintenance-related equipment and machinery.
  • Self-motivated with initiative to improve processes and promote workplace efficiency.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated history of responsibility, dependability, and maturity.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to safely lift up to 80 lbs. in order to provide required maintenance and repairs.
  • Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, including extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be able to drive 14 passenger vans/buses and pull a trailer/boat behind a truck (CDL not required).
  • Must be able to safely use step & extension ladders up to 30 feet.
  • Occasional travel to the Moab location is required.
  • Available and willing to work a non-traditional schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially as needed for projects and special events.
