Job description

SUMMARY:
The Project Engineer utilizes engineering methodology to implement capital and process improvement projects. Uses CAD to do basic design and to modify existing engineering drawings. Administers capital estimates and ensures that project spending is within authorization. Ensure process capability and reliability of new installations of production equipment. Project Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop scopes of work and detailed cost estimates for capital and major maintenance projects.
  2. Works within the Maximo system to set up projects, obtain authorization and tracks to completion.
  3. Administers project details and ensures that spending is within the amount authorized.
  4. Tracks actual spending on all capital and major maintenance projects vs. the annual budget and publishes routinely.
  5. Utilizes Computer Aided Design software to design equipment modifications as well as modifying existing drawings.
  6. Implement process and equipment improvement projects to reduce cost, improve reliability and production.
  7. Effectively interfaces with production team, technical manager, facility manager and others as needed.
  8. Interfaces with the legal department to form purchasing contracts on larger purchases.
  9. Negotiates with contractors to ensure that project spending and terms are optimized plus risks are mitigated.
  10. Interface with contractors to ensure the project scope covers all details and projects are installed as intended by RWCB; insure project timeline is understood and agreed to, avoid any change orders that would impact project cost over-runs.
  11. Manages the inventory of engineering drawings.
  12. Maintains an organized work area plus equipment staging areas.
  13. Utilizes training to assist team in resolving production, safety, quality and reliability problems.
  14. Special projects and assignments as business dictates.
  15. Responsible for the maintenance, creation and control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies that you have access or knowledge of, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPPA.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. BS in Mechanical Engineering preferred, Chemical or Electrical engineers will be considered.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment; paper industry experience is strongly preferred.
  3. Knowledgeable in the operation of pumps, piping, valves and other system components, preferably ones used in paper mills.
  4. Computer savvy, experienced with CAD, MS Project, Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with Maximo a plus.
  5. Good writing and communication skills.
  6. Ability to negotiate price and terms on project purchases.
  7. Knowledge and application of safe work practices and OSHA equipment requirements.
  8. Excellent analytical, organizational, planning and problem-solving/troubleshooting skills.
  9. Comfortable in a manufacturing environment.
  10. Ability to work independently and effectively on teams.
  11. Demonstrate respect, ownership, cooperation and responsibility.
  12. Willing to work nights, weekends, weekend call duty and shutdown as required.
  13. Limited travel required.
