Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and delivery of mechanical and plumbing systems for a broad range of building and facility projects. This role will contribute to system layouts, engineering calculations, construction documents, technical coordination, and construction-phase support while working closely with senior engineers and multidisciplinary project teams. The position will help ensure mechanical and plumbing designs meet project specifications, applicable codes, industry standards, and overall design intent.

The ideal candidate has experience designing HVAC, hydronic, controls, and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, public-sector, industrial, or similarly complex facilities. This role is well suited for an engineer who can manage multiple assignments, collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, and field personnel, and continue developing technical expertise while taking increasing ownership of design and coordination responsibilities within a growing MEP environment.

Why Join Our Client?

Our client is an established multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm serving public and private sector clients across a wide range of building, infrastructure, and community-focused markets. The company provides integrated planning, design, engineering, and consulting services and supports projects involving education, healthcare, federal, municipal, commercial, residential, industrial, and other facility types.

This opportunity offers exposure to varied project types, cross-discipline collaboration, and the ability to contribute to facilities that support communities, public services, workplaces, and essential infrastructure. Experienced engineers will find a role that provides technical variety, access to senior engineering mentorship, increasing project ownership, and the resources of a larger platform with the collaboration and responsiveness of local project teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support mechanical and plumbing system design for varied building and facility projects from concept through final design and construction documentation.
  • Develop HVAC, hydronic, controls, plumbing, and related system layouts in coordination with senior engineers and project teams.
  • Perform engineering calculations, system sizing, technical analyses, and design evaluations to support system performance and code compliance.
  • Prepare construction drawings, technical reports, specifications, and project documentation throughout multiple design phases.
  • Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, civil engineers, contractors, and field staff to maintain design intent.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements throughout design and construction phases.
  • Contribute to construction-phase coordination by reviewing field conditions, supporting technical responses, and helping resolve design-related issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff when appropriate while continuing to build independent design and coordination capability.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical and plumbing system design for building or facility projects.
  • Experience designing HVAC, hydronic, controls, and plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary, and venting systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Experience using load calculation software such as Trane Trace or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal codes and standards related to building system design.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, coordinate across disciplines, and meet project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Knowledge of medical gas and fire suppression systems.
  • Experience preparing written specifications using AIA MasterSpec or SpecsIntact.
  • Experience with healthcare, federal, justice, education, commercial, pharmacy, data center, industrial, residential, multifamily, hospitality, cultural, historic, or military facility projects.
