Job description


Position Summary: LTYC is seeking a creative and energetic Theatre Instructor to introduce students in grades K-8 to the fundamentals of theater arts. This role includes leading classes in acting, improvisation, stage movement, and voice, as well as guiding students through rehearsals and performances. The ideal candidate has a passion for storytelling, a student-centered approach, and experience fostering creativity and collaboration in young performers. This is an independent contractor position and not an employee role.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and teach engaging, age-appropriate theatre arts curriculum for elementary and middle school students.
  • Introduce students to foundational performance skills such as character development, vocal projection, improvisation, and stage presence.
  • Lead students in theatre games, skits, monologues, and collaborative scene work.
  • Direct and coordinate student performances or showcases when applicable.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages expression, teamwork, and confidence-building.
  • Collaborate with other educators on cross-disciplinary arts programming.
  • Provide guidance on basic stagecraft elements (costuming, sets, and props as needed).
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and organized rehearsal/classroom space.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Theatre, Performing Arts, Theatre Education, or equivalent professional experience or has completed at least 30 college credits
  • At least 3 years of prior experience teaching theatre to children, ideally in an elementary or middle school setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and learning styles.
  • Passion for the arts and a commitment to nurturing creativity in young learners.

Additional Requirements:
  • Independent Contractor Agreement: Must be signed upon acceptance.
  • References: Three professional references required, including at least one from a previous position working with children.
  • Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from school site(s).
  • Certifications:
    • Valid CPR & First Aid certification.
    • Proof of educational background and professional certifications (if applicable).
  • Health Clearance:
    • A letter from a physician confirming candidate is in good health, free from communicable diseases (including TB).
  • Background Check:
    • Must provide a current background check from CJIS (including state, federal, and childcare clearance).
