Job Title: Designer/Drafter (Architectural Metal Fabrication)

Our in-house capabilities include laser cutting, a 250-ton sheet metal brake, welding, and finishing. We serve industry companies, OEMs, architects, and general contractors. Join our dynamic team and help bring our customers' visions to life.

Role Overview: As a Drafter at Johnson Metal Works, you'll play a pivotal role in our production workflow. Collaborate closely with our skilled fabrication team to strategize and design creatively, with an emphasis on manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and functionality. You'll work on projects ranging from simple cut/form jobs to large-scale architectural designs.

Responsibilities
  • Create detailed and accurate drawings and 3D models.
  • Determine the order of work and method of presentation, such as orthographic or isometric drawing.
  • Develop fabrication drawings for customer review and approval, including nesting and assembly drawings.
  • Complete and duplicate drawings and documentation packages according to required specifications.
  • Exhibit excellent document control and organization, both digitally and physically.
  • Identify and clarify any inconsistencies in specifications to ensure designs meet all requirements.
  • Work closely with internal and external customers, including prefabrication and fabrication crews.
  • Strive for solutions and demonstrate a team-player attitude, willing to adjust designs for others' needs.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling using SolidWorks, DraftSight, and/or AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of technical documents, plans, and drawings.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and independent judgment skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication processes, drawing, and welding symbols.
  • Strong analytical and math skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Operating Systems & Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiar with Bluebeam.
  • Familiar with ERP software or Fulcrum.
  • Precise, organized, creative, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work autonomously while maintaining effective communication with the team.
  • Willingness to learn new procedures and organizational software.
  • Solution-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
