Shriners Children's is seeking a per diem (PRN) Nurse Practitioner to join the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) team at Shriners Children's Philadelphia. This provider will support the surgical and anesthesia teams by delivering safe, high-quality care to a diverse population of complex pediatric orthopedic patients during the pre-admission phase of the peri-operative experience.

In this role, the Nurse Practitioner will perform comprehensive pre-operative history and physical examinations, coordinate patient preparation for surgery, and support peri-operative risk assessment and planning under physician and anesthesia supervision. Responsibilities include ordering pre-operative labs, diagnostic tests, medications, and blood products in accordance with established pre-op protocols, as well as collaborating closely with anesthesia, surgical, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure patients are optimally prepared for surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe and effective care to patients in the pre-admission phase of the peri-operative experience
  • Coordinate and control activities as it relates to the patient preparation for procedures
  • Monitor the delivery of care and coordination of activities as the patient moves through the pre-admission processes
  • Attend orthopedic, specialty outpatient clinics as assigned (coordinates surgeries, diagnostic studies, and follow-up with patients and families).
  • Obtain and document appropriate health histories and physical exams on patients
  • Order appropriate treatment and/or diagnostic studies
  • Make appropriate referrals as needed

  • Active DEA license required
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Compassionate and mission-driven with strong critical thinking and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner in pediatrics and/or pediatric critical care (PICU/NICU) highly preferred. New graduates will also be considered
