Senior Linux Administrator – AI & HPC Infrastructure

Location: Santa Clara, CA – Onsite

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Linux Administrator to support large-scale AI and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Linux expert with strong experience troubleshooting production server fleets, GPU infrastructure, high-performance storage, and data center-connected compute environments.

This position requires someone who can independently diagnose complex node-level failures, stabilize production systems, automate operational tasks, and improve infrastructure reliability at scale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer large-scale Linux environments supporting AI training, inference, and HPC workloads.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting across OS, kernel, boot, packages, firmware, drivers, filesystems, services, and resource utilization.
  • Diagnose issues involving BIOS, BMC, PXE, DHCP, DNS, NFS, local disks, RAID, NVMe, systemd, and GPU driver stacks.
  • Build and maintain golden images, provisioning pipelines, configuration baselines, and post-deployment validation processes.
  • Troubleshoot GPU server and cluster node bring-up issues.
  • Partner with network, storage, platform, and validation teams to isolate cross-domain failures impacting cluster readiness or job execution.
  • Investigate performance issues involving CPU, memory, NUMA, I/O, interrupts, process scheduling, and kernel tuning.
  • Develop automation and remediation tools using Bash and Python.
  • Create and maintain operational runbooks, failure signatures, troubleshooting procedures, and escalation criteria.
  • Support production environments during high-severity incidents and drive issues through resolution.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on Linux administration experience in data center, cloud, AI, or HPC environments.
  • Strong expertise with RHEL, Ubuntu, Rocky Linux, or similar enterprise Linux distributions.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across:
    • Linux boot and startup
    • system logs and systemd
    • Networking
    • Authentication
    • Filesystems and storage
    • Hardware/software integration
  • Hands-on experience supporting GPU servers and AI/HPC infrastructure.
  • Experience with BMC/out-of-band management and firmware coordination.
  • Experience with PXE/iPXE, Kickstart, cloud-init, and Linux image lifecycle management.
  • Strong experience with Ansible and configuration management.
  • Strong Bash/shell scripting and Python automation skills.
  • Working knowledge of storage and networking dependencies affecting Linux host health.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot ambiguous, high-severity production issues.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Slurm, Kubernetes, container runtimes, or AI/HPC schedulers.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA DCGM and GPU health monitoring.
  • Experience with Mellanox/NVIDIA networking.
  • Experience with infrastructure telemetry and health analysis.
  • Experience supporting validation labs, pre-production environments, or cluster certification.
  • Experience troubleshooting large-scale compute clusters and fleet-level infrastructure issues.
Work Environment
  • Onsite – Santa Clara, CA
  • Hands-on support of AI/HPC compute infrastructure and data center environments.
