Job description

Job Summary
Innovative, results and process-driven Petro-technical professional specializing in a geoscience field. Gathers and combines geological observations and datasets, such as well logs, seismic data,

cores and geo-mechanical data. Explores for and develops hydrocarbons by making geological interpretations to explain the data. Performs geologic studies to mitigate risk, evaluate leads and prospects and improve reservoir characterization. Applies geological interpretation to map or model reservoirs to efficiently and economically manage hydrocarbon extraction. Interprets and analyzes well logs and prepares structure, isopach and net pay maps. Involved with collecting and analyzing competitive activity data and providing recommendations to management. This position is located in downtown Houston, TX. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Applies knowledge of geosteering & geology to select pilot wells, steer horizontal wells, and analyze subsurface data for development planning
  • Proactively and effectively communicates with field/ office personnel
  • Integrates geologic data with engineering and operations teams to optimize well placement and mitigate drilling hazards
  • Manages and reviews service provider performance
  • Provides geologic input for field development planning, the execution of upcoming drilling programs, and proposed surveillance for recent discoveries
  • Demonstrates fundamental log analysis skills & understanding of key well logs
  • Fully capable of preparing maps or displays for internal or external purposes
  • Updates maps, grids and other information to reflect new information obtained from drilling, core samples and other sources
  • Assists with a full range of exploration and development activities, from geologic evaluation of prospect areas, creating geologic maps and crosssections, to performing core and well log analysis
  • Applies geologic and petrophysical knowledge to help explore core acreage positions and identify potential opportunities in adjacent areas
  • Supports integrated subsurface teams, providing appropriate subsurface analysis, e.g. risk assessment & mitigation, probabilistic hydrocarbon estimates, & the reservoir impact of potential wells
  • Uses well logs, seismic data and regional geologic trend data to create play and prospect scale maps for evaluation of exploration opportunities
  • Constructs geologic models by using maps and sections across a diverse set of software platforms
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary exploration teams, identifying & resolving anticipated geologic problems
  • Monitors and evaluates competitor activity and geologic understanding within an assigned geographic area
  • Applies geoscience principles to solve problems and builds technical business knowledge
  • Evaluates moderate-scope problems using data, business awareness, and independent judgment
  • Manages multiple tasks, meets deadlines, & contributes to overall project plans
  • Communicates results clearly, collaborates cross-functionally, and builds trust
  • Applies creative problem-solving and proposes functional improvements
  • Applies insights from competitive and market analysis to support decisions
  • Applies EH&S standards and encourages safe practices in the field

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Data Analytics, Petroleum Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline
  • 3+ years of applied experience in upstream oil and gas (internships or academic research in relevant areas count)
  • Familiarity with interpretation and mapping software
  • Working knowledge of geological and geophysical datasets and basic E&P workflows
  • Strong foundation in structural geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, or geophysics
  • Exposure to Python tools and data mining
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working team environment.
  • Good presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Data Analytics, Petroleum Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of applied experience in upstream oil and gas
