Independent Contractor Asset Recovery information

What is an independent contractor asset recovery specialist?

An Independent Contractor Asset Recovery specialist is a professional who locates, retrieves, and returns assets such as vehicles, equipment, or property on behalf of clients—often lenders, banks, or leasing companies. Unlike full-time employees, independent contractors work on a per-assignment basis and are self-employed. Their responsibilities may include skip tracing, negotiating with asset holders, and ensuring the safe recovery and transport of assets. They must comply with state and federal laws related to repossession and asset recovery.

What are some common challenges faced by independent contractor asset recovery professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Independent Contractor Asset Recovery professionals often encounter challenges such as locating hard-to-find assets, dealing with uncooperative parties, and navigating complex legal or regulatory requirements. Successful contractors typically rely on strong investigative skills, persistence, and a solid understanding of relevant laws to overcome these obstacles. Building a robust network of contacts and staying up to date on industry best practices also helps streamline the recovery process and resolve cases efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an independent contractor asset recovery specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor Asset Recovery Specialist, you need strong investigative skills, knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, and often experience in collections, finance, or law enforcement. Familiarity with asset tracking software, GPS devices, databases, and sometimes a relevant certification or private investigator license is common. Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving abilities are crucial soft skills for building rapport and resolving sensitive situations. These skills ensure efficient asset retrieval, legal compliance, and effective client relations in a challenging field.

What is the difference between Independent Contractor Asset Recovery vs Debt Collector?

Debt Collectors primarily pursue overdue payments through calls and correspondence, usually under strict regulations. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or service provider.

How much do independent contractor asset recovery specialists make?

Independent contractor asset recovery specialists typically earn between $20 and $50 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of cases. Some may also work on a commission basis or project fees, with annual earnings varying widely based on workload and client contracts.

Enterprise Systems Administrator

Location: On-Site / Hybrid (Franklin, TN)

Engagement Type: Independent Contractor Engagement (1099)

Client: Large National Veteran Nonprofit Organization

Contract Value Range: ($70,000-84,000) - Compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications, subject to final scope and independent contractor agreement

The Engagement

Allied Cyber Solutions (ACS) is seeking an independent contractor to provide Enterprise Systems Administration services for a large national veteran nonprofit organization. The contractor will provide on-site and remote user support, enterprise systems administration, technology asset management, and coordination with the client's Managed Service Provider (MSP).

The contractor will coordinate with the ACS Chief Technology & Security Consultant within a co-managed technology environment. The engagement complements the MSP through hands-on Tier 0–1 support, routine administration, asset and lifecycle management, onboarding/offboarding support, and escalation of advanced issues. The contractor retains independent professional judgment over the manner and means of performing the services, subject to agreed deliverables, security requirements, and change controls.

Contracted services include:

·       Provide Tier 0–1 troubleshooting and first-touch technical support for client employees.

·       Diagnose and resolve common issues involving laptops (Windows & Mac), desktops, monitors, docking stations, printers, peripherals, mobile devices, Microsoft 365, approved applications, connectivity, authentication, and MFA.

·       Serve as the client's on-site technical liaison with the MSP and other approved technology vendors.

·       Provide basic support for conference-room, meeting-room, audiovisual, and other office technology within the approved support scope.

·       Open, update, monitor, and coordinate MSP support tickets and track material or recurring issues through resolution and provide hands-on assistance when remote MSP or vendor technicians require on-site hands.

·       Coordinate equipment deployments, replacements, troubleshooting activities, and scheduled vendor/MSP site visits.

·       Maintain technology asset inventory and lifecycle records, including assignments, locations, serial numbers, warranties, receipt, deployment, recovery, secure storage, replacement, retirement/disposal, and replacement forecasts.

·       Coordinate technology requirements for employee onboarding, role changes, and offboarding, including equipment, accounts, applications, licensing, access, and asset recovery.

·       Perform approved routine administrative activities within Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, and designated enterprise SaaS applications.

·       Support SharePoint site administration and data organization, including document libraries, permissions, folder structures, metadata, naming conventions, and appropriate access controls.

·       Perform ongoing SharePoint content cleanup and lifecycle management, identifying duplicate, outdated, orphaned, or improperly stored data and coordinating with business owners to archive, relocate, retain, or remove content in accordance with organizational data governance, retention, and security policies.

·       Assist with user accounts, groups, licenses, distribution lists, MFA, routine permissions, and access-management workflows.

·       Identify and promptly escalate suspicious activity, lost devices, inappropriate access, potential security incidents, or other material technology risks.

·       Identify recurring support issues, operational gaps, and opportunities to improve the organization's technology environment and employee experience.

·       Maintain current technology documentation, including asset records, system ownership information, support procedures, equipment standards, vendor contacts, and escalation paths.

The Enterprise Systems Administrator is not responsible for advanced network engineering, firewall administration, server administration, backup operations, advanced endpoint engineering, or other infrastructure functions assigned to the client's MSP unless specifically authorized.

Independent Contractor Relationship

This is an independent contractor engagement, not employment. Services will be governed by a written contractor agreement or SOW. The engagement will begin with an initial 18-month term from October 1, 2026, through March 31, 2028, after which it is anticipated to renew for successive 12-month terms unless either party provides at least 90 days’ written notice of non-renewal prior to the end of the then-current term. Renewal terms may include a review of scope, service requirements, and contract terms. The contractor is responsible for applicable taxes, insurance, licenses, and other self-employment obligations and is not eligible for ACS or client employee benefits except as required by law.

The contractor is engaged to deliver defined services and outcomes using independent professional judgment while complying with applicable client security, confidentiality, access-control, change-management, safety, and on-site requirements.

The contractor generally furnishes ordinary business tools. ACS or the client may provide access to systems, credentials, facilities, equipment, or specialized technology necessary to securely perform the services; all client property remains client-owned.

The contractor may not bind ACS or the client or represent themselves as an employee. Services to other clients are permitted provided they do not create conflicts, impair performance, or violate confidentiality or security obligations.

Requirements

Here is What You'll Need

·       Minimum five (5) years of professional IT support, systems administration, or enterprise technology support experience in a Microsoft-based environment.

·       Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, user/group/licensing administration, authentication, MFA, SSO, and access management.

·       Experience troubleshooting Windows and Mac endpoints, printers, docking stations, peripherals, mobile devices, conference-room technology, and common office applications.

·       Experience with IT ticketing, asset/lifecycle management, onboarding/offboarding, and coordination with an MSP or outsourced technology provider.

·       Working knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals, including MFA, least privilege, RBAC, endpoint security, phishing, and secure data handling.

·       Ability to appropriately distinguish between issues that can be resolved locally and those requiring escalation to an MSP, vendor, or technology leadership.

·       Strong customer-service orientation and ability to communicate technical information effectively to nontechnical users.

·       Ability to independently prioritize multiple support issues and operational requirements.

·       Ability to provide contracted on-site service coverage a minimum of three (3) days per week, coordinated with ACS and the client.

Desired Qualifications

·       Associate's or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

·       CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent industry certification.

·       Familiarity with Salesforce or another enterprise CRM platform.

·       Experience working within a co-managed IT environment involving an internal technology function and external MSP.

·       Experience supporting nonprofit, veteran-serving, or other mission-driven organizations.

·       Demonstrated ability to identify recurring technology issues and recommend process, system, or support improvements.
