Description:

The primary responsibilities of the Construction Technologist is to layout points associated with pipe and duct hangers, sleeves and floor openings, equipment and curb locations with the use of a Robotic Total Station. The Technologist works with the QA/QC Construction Technology Manager (QA/QC CTM) to explore new technology that may benefit the construction and design team. The Technologist typically reports to the QA/QC CTM.

A day in the life:

  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules, regulations, procedures and practices

Layout and Site Capture

  • Mark ground at jobsites for underground services to be installed by groundwork crew

  • Perform point layout on jobsites using Robotic Total Stations for field team to install anchors and/or sleeves.

  • Visit Jobsites weekly and perform site captures with the use of an iPad and a 360 camera (i.e., Ricoh Theta Z1)

  • Complete production verification of installed systems

  • Keep up with latest technologies and advise/review with QA/QC CTM

Deliverables and Documentation

  • Upload site capture data from 360 camera to current web-based program (i.e., OpenSpace) using company supplied laptop

You should have:

  • Possess minimal construction experience as a Plumber, Duct Person, or Electrician, with previous work experience in commercial construction
  • Ability to review and understand contract drawings, shop drawings, & 3D models
  • Demonstrate proficiency using construction software (i.e., Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Field Link)
  • Ability to quickly learn the use of new technology (i.e., Robotic Total Stations, 360 cameras)
  • Possess high school diploma, Journeyman's license is a plus
  • Ability to coordinate with others, and perform tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to analyze data and then combine information to form conclusions
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and remain calm when handling emergencies
