Job Summary

Dorman Products invites applications for the position of Contract Technical Trainer / Automotive Instructor, a pivotal role dedicated to advancing the skills and knowledge of automotive technicians and service professionals across the United States. This part-time contract opportunity involves delivering specialized training programs that cover cutting-edge automotive technologies such as driver assistance systems, advanced diagnostics, emission controls, and complex electronic components.

Important:

  • This is a 1099 Independent Contract role.
  • This role requires flexibility for approximately 50% travel commitments on an "as needed" basis, inclusive of overnight stays.
  • Candidates must reside within the contiguous United States and ideally within a one-hour drive from a major airport to facilitate travel requirements.
  • Compensation will be offered on a per-class basis, including time allocated for travel and full reimbursement of approved travel expenses.
Primary Duties
  • Develop, plan, and deliver comprehensive technical training programs tailored to automotive service professionals, emphasizing clarity, engagement, and practical application.
  • Collaborate closely with the Training Director to implement curriculum enhancements and ensure course content reflects the latest automotive innovations and industry standards.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain expertise in evolving automotive technologies by utilizing multiple resources such as industry literature, hands-on experiences, virtual and live seminars, and participation in professional training networks.
  • Prepare thoroughly for each training session, employing adult learning principles to facilitate effective knowledge transfer and maintain high participant engagement levels.
  • Actively contribute to the refinement and enrichment of training materials, documentation, and communication tools to enhance program quality and instructional consistency.
  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through participant feedback and outcome assessments, suggesting improvements as necessary to meet organizational goals.
  • Maintain effective communication channels with stakeholders and participants to support ongoing learning and address any training-related inquiries or concerns promptly.
Qualifications
  • Proven capability in designing and structuring training programs that meet diverse learner needs within the automotive industry.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple schedules, and plan training sessions according to client requirements and industry demand.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Teams and Outlook, to facilitate seamless communication, collaboration, scheduling, and content delivery.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and engagingly to adult learners from various backgrounds.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive products and parts, enabling accurate and relevant instruction aligned with current market offerings.
  • Adeptness in adapting training delivery methods and materials to suit both in-person and potentially virtual training environments, enhancing accessibility and learning outcomes.
Education / Experience
  • Technical background with hands-on experience in the automotive sector, demonstrating a solid understanding of vehicle systems and components.
  • Minimum of five years of experience delivering adult education programs, preferably in automotive or technical training contexts.
  • Relevant certifications or credentials related to automotive technology, training, or education are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated history of success in fostering learner development, with documented outcomes evidencing improvements in participant performance following training interventions.
