Job Summary: The Inbound Lead oversees the day-to-day inbound operations of the warehouse. This hands-on role is responsible for the effective and efficient execution of receiving, putaway, inventory control, and quality assurance. The position ensures safety, task management, productivity, and quality within the assigned department. As a player-coach, the Inbound Lead is actively involved in warehouse floor operations and works closely with the Operations Manager to follow direction and prioritize tasks. The role ensures that operational objectives, service level agreements (SLAs), and performance standards are consistently met.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety within outbound operations by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and warehouse safety practices.
  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of warehouse associates responsible for ecommerce outbound fulfillment.
  • Provide clear direction, task assignments, and real-time coaching to team members to ensure productivity, accuracy, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor workflow across picking, packing, and shipping functions to ensure orders are processed efficiently and within established service level agreements.
  • Manage outbound dock operations to ensure trucks are loaded accurately and dispatched on schedule.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and troubleshoot issues that may disrupt outbound flow; escalate issues when necessary.
  • Ensure outbound orders are accurately confirmed and invoiced within the WMS/ERP system.
  • Maintain high standards of order accuracy through quality control checks and resolution of discrepancies prior to shipment.
  • Monitor and drive pick performance to achieve productivity and accuracy targets.
  • Serve as stand-up meeting leader in the absence of the Operations Manager.
  • Coordinate closely with the Operations Manager and Flow Controller to align daily execution with operational priorities.

Job Requirements:

  • 3+ years of warehouse or distribution center leadership experience.
  • Experience supervising or leading warehouse associates in a shop floor environment.
  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and ERP systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to delegate tasks and provide coaching.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Experience with continuous improvement practices such as 5S or Lean principles preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Well-organized and self-directed individual who works effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must meet company background screening requirements where permitted by law.

Accountabilities: 

The Ecommerce Outbound Lead is accountable for:

  • Meeting outbound operational targets and service level agreements.
  • Maintaining high levels of order accuracy and shipment quality.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate confirmation and invoicing of outbound orders.
  • Achieving and sustaining strong pick productivity and accuracy performance.
  • Identifying and escalating operational issues that may impact outbound flow.
  • Supporting effective team communication and continuity of leadership during daily stand-up meetings.
  • Maintaining strong coordination with the Operations Manager and Flow Controller to ensure efficient daily execution of outbound operations.

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS

Performance in this role may be evaluated based on the following operational metrics:

  • Order Accuracy Rate – Ensuring outbound shipments meet company accuracy standards.
  • Pick Productivity – Achieving established pick rate targets while maintaining accuracy.
  • On-Time Shipment Performance – Ensuring orders are fulfilled and dispatched within required service level agreements.
  • Outbound Throughput – Maintaining efficient processing of daily order volume.
  • Quality Control Compliance – Ensuring proper quality checks are performed and discrepancies are resolved prior to shipment.
  • Safety Performance – Maintaining adherence to safety protocols and contributing to a safe work environment.
  • Team Productivity and Engagement – Supporting effective floor leadership, coaching, and communication to maintain operational efficiency.
