Job description

Job Summary
JR Automation is seeking an experienced Weld Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and optimization of automated welding systems. This role requires strong expertise in welding engineering, process development, fixture design, welding automation, and quality assurance while ensuring compliance with AWS and ASME welding standards.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing welding procedures, supporting automated manufacturing environments, and improving welding quality through engineering best practices.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
  • Design and assist in the development of weld fixtures and tooling.
  • Establish welding process parameters for automated welding equipment.
  • Support fixture validation and finished-part gauge verification.
  • Design, implement, and document control systems for automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system integration for welding automation.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLC-controlled automated welding systems.
  • Coordinate machine commissioning, debugging, power-up, and production validation.
  • Ensure equipment meets customer specifications and JR Automation engineering standards.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Troubleshoot welding defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and production teams to improve welding efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Travel to customer facilities to support installations, audits, and production activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Alternatively, six or more years of related experience in welding automation may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and qualifying:
    • WPS
    • PQR
    • WPQ documentation
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Strong experience reading and interpreting:
    • Engineering drawings
    • Schematics
    • Specifications
    • Manufacturing documentation
  • Extensive knowledge of welding codes and standards including:
    • AWS D1.1
    • AWS D1.2
    • AWS D1.3
    • AWS D1.6
    • AWS B2.1
    • ASME Section IX
  • Hands-on experience with welding processes:
    • FCAW
    • GMAW (MIG)
    • GTAW (TIG)
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):
    • UT
    • RT
    • MT
    • PT
    • VT
  • Familiarity with ASNT TC-1A weld inspection requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
  • Experience in Industrial Manufacturing.
  • Experience in Metal Fabrication.
  • Experience conducting on-site manufacturing audits.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or practical implementation experience.
  • Experience with automated welding systems and robotic welding applications.
