Description

The Middle School Science Teacher develops and delivers instruction in science aligned with Core Knowledge/Classical curriculum standards. This role fosters a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and a love of science. The teacher contributes to the school's mission by cultivating students' intellectual growth and preparing them for lifelong learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Education, Science, or a related field)
  • Strong knowledge of middle school science curriculum and standards

  • Commitment to fostering a love of science and lifelong learning in students

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, engagement, and curiosity.
  • Plan a program of study tailored to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, challenging each to achieve their best work.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, instructional materials, and technology to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grade records, and student progress reports using the student information system.
  • Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific reasoning through hands-on experiments, lab work, and projects.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support academic and personal growth.
  • Stay current with advancements in science education and integrate new technologies and teaching methods into the classroom.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum design, interdisciplinary projects, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Cooperate with the board and administration in implementing all school policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Represent the school professionally to students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
  • Follow grievance policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies in accordance with school protocols.
  • Manage and maintain classroom materials, lab equipment, and school-owned resources responsibly.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including supervision of carpool, lunch, or recess activities.
