Job description

Overview

A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who facilitates timely break and meal coverage for nursing staff. The RN assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of nursing process and the delivery of care while relieving other nurses during meal/rest periods. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of skilled, high quality patient care; for assisting in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating nursing practice and collaborating with members of the healthcare team.


Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrates communication and interactions in accordance with Confluence Health’s Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance.
  2. Under the direction of nursing leadership, serves as a resource to provide coverage for staff meals and rest breaks.
  3. Assumes responsibility for a patient care assignment from primary care RN to ensure patient needs are meet during the nurse’s absence.
  4. Performs related patient care assignments and task in association with meal/rest period coverage as requested to promote quality patient care, positive visitor, family, and co-worker relations.
  5. According to the established standards of nursing practice and standards of care, the nurse will demonstrate an ability to make clinical nursing judgement in an efficient and effective manner.
  6. Demonstrates organization skills to support timely meal and rest periods.
  7. Ability/skill level and time management to function effectively under pressure and meet time parameters.
  8. Responsible to notify unit leadership if process is not being followed (i.e. staff refusals or are not timely in their return).
  9. Documents and tracks meal/rest periods.
  10. Periodically scheduled as primary RN to maintain skills and may be assigned as a primary RN when need to ensure safe staffing.
  11. Coordinates and provides high quality patient care utilizing the nursing process, unit specific standards of practice. Refer to Inpatient RN job description.
    • Provides nursing care for patients including administration of medications, completion of nursing procedures and/or treatments.
    • Determines and completes appropriate nursing actions to meet care goal, including the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of the patient.
    • Documents care provided, assessments, plan of care, interventions and responses accurately in the patient’s medical record.
  12. Actively maintains current knowledge base of workflows, process and evidence-based procedures
  13. Delegates appropriately and oversees care provided by non-licensed assistive personnel.
  14. Participates in performance evaluation/improvement processes with Director/Clinical Manager. Assumes responsibility for own professional development and personal growth.
  15. Consistently functions within the guidelines of the Washington Nurse Practice Act, unit specific standards of practice, and keeps current with the legal aspects of nursing.
  16. Communicates and collaborates with members of the healthcare team including physicians, patients and families to facilitate effective patient care and treatment.
  17. Maintains a clean and safe environment for patient and staff according to hospital and unit policies
  18. Actively participates in quality improvement programs.
  19. Adheres to Confluence Health Hospital policies and unit standards as applicable.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88) or licensure through Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (SSB 5499).

  • Minimum of one year experience in unit specialty if applicable

  • Maintain certification in BLS and additional certifications as required for the unit specialty/population (i.e. PALS, ACLS, NRP)

  • Must possess basic computer skills related to Windows navigation, electronic medical record system, mouse usage, keyboarding, email communication and password management.
