Job description

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the instruction of Nursing students in the clinical setting; should be articulate, team oriented, professional in appearance and demeanor, and display excellent interpersonal skills. The selected candidate will maintain currency within his/her field, including required licensure. This is a part-time position and the hours can vary depending on a number of factors, including, but not limited to simulation/skills laboratory need and clinical site needs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Salary: $30 per hour
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise students in the nursing skills and/or simulation lab and/or various clinical settings. No supervision of employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Supervise students in the nursing skills and/or simulation lab and/or various clinical settings at a ratio not to exceed 8 in an acute care setting, 10 in a non-acute care setting, or 15 in a community service setting.
โ€ข Structure a learning environment in which all students are treated equally, fairly, and respectfully.
โ€ข Maintain attendance records and report student deficiencies to Clinical Coordinator and/or Director of Nursing Programs.
โ€ข Facilitate effective student learning experiences that focus on achievement of the student's current course learner outcomes.
โ€ข Evaluate student performance and provide immediate feedback to the student, including advising student of areas of needed improvement if applicable.
โ€ข Ensure students are receiving and providing appropriate patient report per the facility policy.
โ€ข Grade clinical assignments and enter grades in the college's LMS (Learning Management System) in a timely manner.
โ€ข Perform scheduled work hours and expected tasks as assigned.
โ€ข Provide regular updates on student progress to Clinical Coordinator and/or Director of Nursing Programs.
โ€ข Attend faculty meetings as scheduled by the Clinical Coordinator and/or the Director of Nursing Programs.
โ€ข Maintain professionalism and effective communication on campus, in the lab and in clinical settings.
โ€ข Provide a supportive and educational learning environment.
โ€ข Be knowledgeable of and uphold the program's Student Handbook policies, program procedures, and program/course requirements.
โ€ข Attend all required orientation and training.
โ€ข Actively participate in annual evaluation processes related to job performance as directed by the South Arkansas College Plan for Faculty evaluation and incorporate associated strategies to address continuous improvement for development and learning;
โ€ข Complies with South Arkansas Community College Governing Board Policy and state and federal policy, including FERPA.
โ€ข Adhere to South Arkansas College's policies and procedures.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Possesses sound familiarity of current nursing concepts, principles, practices, and skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for student grading and communication.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Holds a minimum of an associate degree in Registered Nursing (RN) and a current, unencumbered registered nursing (RN) license in the state of Arkansas or from a compact state.
  • Work experience as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • Current Basic Life Support provider card.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (RN) or Master of Science in Nursing degree (RN).
  • Work experience as a Registered Nurse for five (5) or more years.
  • Work experience in teaching and/or clinical instruction, especially in a variety of areas.
  • Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: physical mobility sufficient for direct supervision of students in lab and clinical settings; have visual ability sufficient for observation and assessment; auditory ability sufficient for monitoring and assessing health needs; and fine and gross motor skills sufficient for providing safe and competent nursing care. The employee must be able to move around and about their area, and operate a computer as needed. Some lifting will be expected and he/she must be able to perform expected duties of a nursing instructor in various clinical settings.
