Financial support will be available to the successful candidate with a return of service agreement.**Preference through this opportunity will be given to candidates who have completed or are currently enrolled in the Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Coursefacilitatedby the de SouzaInstitute.**
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Oncology Nurse will be involved in all aspects of the oncology and medical day care programincluding, but not limitedto:patient/family assessment, administering & teaching chemotherapy/biotherapy,medical day care activities, providing supportive and palliative care, participation in thedevelopment &implementation of patient treatment plans, quality improvement processes, and facilitation of referralsand researchactivities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontarioin good standing
- Completion of the de Souza Institute Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy coursemandatory
- Completion of de Souza Institute Foundations in Oncology Nursing coursemandatory
- Certificate in Oncology Nursing CON(C) an asset
- Current BCLS certification; ACLS preferred
- Experience with medical day care procedures including but not limited to paracentesis, thoracentesis,phlebotomy, IVIG, blood transfusions
- Experience with intravenous insertion, PICC andPortacathaccess
- Current experience in systemic chemotherapy administration
- Knowledge & application of principles of oncology and palliative care nursing
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of patient assessment, patient-focused care, oncologic disease processes, needs of the oncology patientpopulation, safe administration of chemotherapeutic agents, principles of adult learning, and therapeutic communication techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in working both independently and as part of inter-professional team
- Demonstrated leadership abilities
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
- Computer literacy; working knowledge of a variety of computer systems & software applications
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development, continuingeducationand clinicaltraining programs
- Exemplaryattendance record
- Satisfactory Reference Checksrequiredprior to start date
- Must provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Must complete a Pre-Employment Health Assessment prior to being hired
