Key Responsibilities
  • Support a large group of predominantly technical employees and contractors, including engineers, designers, project, and discipline managers locally in Calgary, as well in our offices abroad. 
  • Provide a variety of human resource services, including consulting with employees and managers regarding a variety of inquiries such as time and cost, compensation, benefits, training and development, records management, succession planning, employee relations, policy writing and interpretation.
  • Develop solutions by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information to recommend a course of action.
  • Identify problems and opportunities for improvement, evaluate potential solutions, create and implement create and roll out programs and initiatives, and coach and counsel managers, employees and contractors. 
  • Generate and track probationary reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Strong skills in HR records management – benefits, lifecycle management, electronic filing, audits, etc. 
  • Prepare general correspondence such as routine letters, spreadsheets, and input data as required.
  • Provide a high degree of customer service, responding thoroughly to manager, employee and contractor inquiries and follow up where needed.
  • Understand legislative requirements such as Human Rights, and the Alberta Employment Standards Act, and interpret individual agreements and policies to advise managers, employees and contractors. Bonus points if you have experience with US, Mexico and/or Australian legislation. 
  • Provide guidance, support and backup to the HR Administrator. 
  • Support employee mobility internationally by managing the immigration requirements and process.

  • Move quickly between strategic and tactical hands-on HR.
  • Infer potential factors and read between the lines in order to provide a solution that considers all impacts.
  • Work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Communicate and counsel a mixed group of employees, contractors and managers.

  • Manage your time and priorities effectively. 
  • Identify trends and analyze data to envision solutions to issues.
  • Find places for improvement and seek out new initiatives.
  • Manage confidential issues and materials in a tactful, professional and confidential manner.

Education and Qualifications: 
  •  5-10 years’ experience in a Human Resources Generalist role.
  • Preference for experience working in the EPC, Oil and Gas or Construction industry/ies.
  • Strong knowledge of Albertan employment law, interpreting exemptions for contractors, engineers, etc.
  • BA Human Resources Management or BComm is an asset.
  • CPHR designation is an asset.
  • Knowledge of international immigration is an asset. 
  • Knowledge of Australian, US, and Mexican employment legislation is an asset.
  • Experience managing WCB and Professional Engineering enrolment is an asset.
  • Experience with more than one HRIS system and/or ability to learn our proprietary software.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office proficiency – Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point.
