Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: The incumbent is responsible for understanding and performing all finished product test procedures, daily minimum raw material lab testing requirements, and quality process instrument calibrations as outlined below. This position will rotate with a Production crew and is responsible for making sure the finished product meets CertainTeed's high standards of quality. Adherence to all company safety policies and precautions while performing assigned tasks and at all times when on the premises.

This position reports to the Quality Control Manager. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Perform final audit of finished product testing to include the following checks (once an hour): This process will be done once an hour unless otherwise noted: press bundle, pallet & back coating weight - once every four hours release tape/alignment dimension - length, width & laminated dragon tooth/shim shim alignment sealant caliper/alignment/geometry bundle count & squareness laminated adhesive pattern alignment bundle wrap end/stencils color exposed, shadow line, paint lines Perform daily lab minimum raw material testing as needed: This process will be completed as needed: Softening Point, Penetration, Viscosity, NMR%, Wet Scrub, Tear Strength, Product Moisture % Calibration of all quality instruments involved in the process- tape measures, dry scrub machine, sealant caliper, and right angle. Follow procedures outlined for non-conforming products.

Communicate with operators, maintenance, and supervisors when any safety, quality, or productivity issues occur. Performs checks on the "key" areas of the finished product on their check sheet and continuous checks of the finished product to identify any problems. Follow all safety precautions while performing tasks at all times.

All areas are to be clean and clear of any debris before/after maintenance days and holidays. Report all EH&S incidents - Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage. Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities.

Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions. Participate in the development, understanding, and review of all position JSA's. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas.

Manufacturing processes involve granules, sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene. Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as forklifts, buggies, genie booms, and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.

Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES (SKILLS & ABILITIES): High School Diploma or GED plus a minimum of two (2) years of manufacturing experience. In addition, must satisfactorily complete associated training programs. Additional preferred experience: 2 years in Quality Control Communication skills must be at a high level in order to clearly communicate issues/problems of the process.

Interfacing with a computerized process monitoring system requires knowledge and skills in the areas of computer navigation. Ability to lift a minimum of 30 to 75 lbs. along with passing a vision color test.

Must have a valid forklift license and complete associated training requirements for safe operations and maintenance of forklifts. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work an average of 40 hours per week, speak clearly so others understand, visual acuity to see details within a few feet of an observer, accepting of criticism and deal calmly and effectively with high-stress situations, sensitivity to other's needs, positive demeanor, and model change management for the business. Must take and pass the Munsell 100-HUE color testing.

Results must be "normal in the superior or average range, 90 or below" in a color discrimination test. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk.
