Job description

Job Summary
JOB TITLE: Rec 'N Roll Staff
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time (Seasonal)
STARTING HOURLY RATE: $14.00
Description:
Rec 'N Roll Staff are the direct service providers of the Mobile Units program. This role requires adaptability and flexibility. Rec 'N Roll staff travel to various sites throughout the city setting up and coordinating activities such as the Skate Van, Carnival Games, Rec 'N Roll and community engagement events. These staff provide service to special events for public and school-based rentals.
As of November 1, 2021, all MPS employees are required to be fully vaccinated. The health and safety of our staff and students is our number one priority. That's why all offers of employment are contingent on the candidate showing proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (currently one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine) to pass the pre-employment requirements. Individuals with medical issues or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine may request an accommodation from the vaccine requirement.
Position Summary
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Recreation Vehicle Use Manual.
  • Enforce all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Effectively communicate with other staff, participants, school personnel, and the general public (where applicable).
  • Oversee the implementation of all Rec 'N Roll activities.
  • A working knowledge of Rec 'N Roll procedures and services.
  • Assist in ensuring safe and friendly Rec 'N Roll events.
  • Execute emergency procedures and action plans if needed and report all incidents/accidents to supervisor immediately.
  • Complete all required paperwork/reports accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Ensure the Mobile Units program has all of the necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of assigned area and equipment.
  • Setup and break down Rec 'N Roll activities.
  • Actively promote, recruit, and engage with participants for Rec 'N Roll events.
  • Distribute, collect, and perform maintenance, minor repair, and adjustments to program equipment and engagement materials.
  • Provide explanation and/or demonstration of program games and equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Milwaukee Recreation marketing team in the planning and execution of community engagement events.
  • Work alongside marketing team to ensure booth requests are staffed and all details are communicated.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervision Required
Works under the direction of the Rec 'N Roll Resource, Recreation Supervisor, and Recreation Manager.
Job Requirements
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to lift up to 40lbs continuously.

Preferred Experience
  • Previous work experience in a public setting with a diverse population.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of youth and adults in all Rec 'N Roll programs.
  • Able to coordinate and lead groups in a variety of games and enrichment activities.

Working Environment
This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities. Staff will be required to supervise groups of children and adults as well as assist in the accommodation of children and/or adults with disabilities (within parameters of provided training).
