Design Manager


Position Summary

The Design Manager leads the Mechanical Design team, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions that meet project, customer, and business objectives. This role provides technical leadership, manages engineering resources, drives continuous improvement, and promotes design excellence through collaboration, standardization, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Mechanical Design team through coaching, performance management, and recruitment.
  • Oversee mechanical design activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and best practices to improve consistency, efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Manage departmental resources, priorities, and performance using key operational metrics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support successful project execution and resolve technical challenges.
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering change management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, customer requirements, regulatory codes, and safe engineering practices.
  • Support proposal development, concept design, and customer technical discussions as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, college diploma, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design for industrial automation, including leadership experience.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong knowledge of machining, fabrication, pneumatics, hydraulics, robotics, servos, and automation systems.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects and implementing engineering best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to build collaborative, high-performing teams.
