Job description

Description
The Section of Endocrinology at the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) invites applications for a full-time faculty position for an MD or MD, PhD Endocrinologist with either a strong background in health systems science, population health, implementation or outcomes research, health disparities and/or clinical epidemiology (OR) a strong background in basic and/or translational, laboratory-based endocrine research.
We are seeking a visionary clinician-investigator to develop a research program that will complement the Section's traditional strengths in diabetes, metabolism, obesity and/or mineral and bone metabolism. The successful candidate should have a track record of research productivity, established or pending external research funding and academic credentials supporting their appointment to be Assistant or Associate Professor at Yale Medical School. Depending on the specific needs of the role, the candidate would have access to a rich set of resources including the Yale Diabetes Research Center, the Yale Obesity Research Center, the Yale Human Translational Immunology Program, the Yale Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation, the National Clinical Scholars Program at Yale, the Yale School of Public Health, the Yale Center for Molecular and Systems Metabolism, the Yale Program for Mitochondrial Biology and Intermediary Metabolism, and the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation and its associated inpatient and outpatient human research units.
Selected candidates will also be provided with research space in a newly opened facility and competitive start-up funds commensurate with their rank and/or demonstrated programmatic needs. The Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism currently includes 50 full-time research and clinical faculty and is growing. The Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) includes a network of 5 hospitals across Connecticut and Rhode Island, Yale Medicine, and the New England Medical Group, that collectively record over 3.6 million outpatient encounters and over 150,000 inpatient discharges per year. All parts of YNHHS are interconnected within a single electronic medical record and a unified IRB, making it an ideal platform for clinical research at scale. YSM is also affiliated with VA Connecticut Healthcare System, a 1A VA hospital system with a strong track record of research in clinical outcomes and informatics, supported by the Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) Coordinating Center and Clinical Epidemiology Research Center (CERC). Experience in research involving artificial intelligence in healthcare would be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct high-impact, externally funded research in implementation science, health disparities, clinical epidemiology and population-based care directed at reducing the burden of endocrine and metabolic disease (OR) conduct high-impact, externally funded basic or translational research directed at reducing the burden of endocrine and metabolic disease.
  • Contribute to clinical care in endocrinology.
  • Mentor graduate students, clinical trainees and junior faculty in basic, translational and/or clinical research and community-engaged scholarship.
  • Serve as a strategic leader in interdisciplinary collaborations across the health system and surrounding communities or across the Endocrine Section and related Basic Science Departments and Programs.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • MD, or MD. PhD (or equivalent) with board certification in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism.
  • Strong background in health services research, outcomes research, clinical epidemiology, implementation science, public health and/or community-engaged research (OR) a strong background in basic or translational research
  • Track record of securing competitive research funding (NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, foundations, etc.).
  • Experience collaborating across departments, clinical disciplines, and community-based organizations.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in CT.
