What is the difference between Implementation Science Research vs Implementation Specialist?
| Aspect | Implementation Science Research | Implementation Specialist |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically requires a master's or doctoral degree in public health, healthcare, or related fields | Often requires a bachelor's or master's degree in health sciences, public health, or related areas |
| Work Environment | Research settings, academic institutions, healthcare organizations | Healthcare facilities, community organizations, clinics |
| Primary Focus | Studying methods to promote the integration of research findings into practice | Applying strategies to implement evidence-based practices in real-world settings |
Implementation Science Research focuses on studying and developing methods to facilitate the adoption of research findings into practice, often within academic or research settings. In contrast, Implementation Specialists are hands-on professionals who apply these strategies directly within healthcare or community settings to ensure effective implementation of evidence-based practices.

Job description
The College of Health Solutions (CHS) at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join the newly established Nourish to Flourish Studio, an interdisciplinary initiative advancing education, research, and innovation at the intersection of nutrition, health, technology, and human flourishing. The position will be supervised by Dr. Corrie Whisner and Dr. Christopher Wharton and collaborate closely with faculty and partners across ASU Health, the College of Health Solutions, and the Principled Innovation ecosystem. This is a 12-month appointment that may be renewed for subsequent one-year terms up to four years, contingent on continued satisfactory performance, the continued availability of funding and the needs of the program, and as long as you are within five years from receipt of the doctoral degree.
The Nourish to Flourish Studio is part of a university-wide effort to reimagine health professional education, nutrition science, and community-engaged research through the lens of human flourishing. The Studio integrates principles of nutrition, food systems, character development, community engagement, digital health innovation (e.g., digital twinning), and emerging technologies to address complex health challenges and improve well-being across populations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in one or more of the following areas: precision nutrition, nutritional sciences, digital health, artificial intelligence applications in health, digital twinning, health professions education, implementation science, food systems, community-engaged research, health equity, behavioral interventions, or translational health research. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and enthusiasm for working across disciplines to translate scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in health and well-being.
The postdoctoral scholar will join a collaborative and rapidly growing interdisciplinary team and contribute to projects related to Digital Twinning for Nutritional Flourishing and other emerging initiatives within the Nourish to Flourish Studio. Research activities may include development and evaluation of personalized nutrition approaches, application of digital health technologies, educational innovations for health professionals, community-based nutrition interventions, and studies examining the relationships among nutrition, food systems, and human flourishing. The scholar will have opportunities to participate in grant development, lead and co-author peer-reviewed publications, mentor students, engage with community partners, present research at national and international conferences, and help shape the future direction of this innovative program.
At ASU and the College of Health Solutions, we work to maximize opportunities for people of varied backgrounds, abilities and perspectives. We value and encourage inclusive excellence as outlined in our ASU Charter, and strive to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all faculty, staff and students - which we believe is critical to our success as a community. All individuals who can strengthen our academic community are encouraged to apply, and will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other basis protected by law.
About the College of Health Solutions
We bring together researchers, faculty, students and community partners from a variety of disciplines to translate scientific research and discovery into practical solutions that make a difference. Our undergraduate and graduate students gain the knowledge and insight necessary to help solve our greatest health challenges - improving the health care system, increasing access to care and enhancing the health of individuals and populations. olytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic's campus in north Phoenix.
