Overview
A Safety Associate will be an individual with outstanding knowledge and keen understanding of front-line operations at Newfields. Observe and protect IMA Art, Galleries, Gardens, Guests and Staff by reporting all unauthorized activity. This role will be cross trained to assist with the implementation of our screening process. They will embody the values at Newfields including stewardship, inclusivity, service, and excellence. Safety Associates will move throughout the Galleries, Gardens, Lilly House, and Art and Nature Park remaining vigilant while also providing excellent customer service to Newfields guests.
Responsibilities
  • Position will require prolonged standing and walking
  • Completes daily art inventory
  • Post and rove in all gallery spaces, Lilly House, the Gardens and Art and Nature Park observing guests and art to deter any interaction or damage to art.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, or medical emergencies as required. Respond to emergencies, including medical, and alarms in the galleries and Lilly House.
  • Implement appropriate emergency responses to fire, safety, and access procedures by following security procedures established for these emergency protocols.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Record daily activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences
  • Ability to monitor guest flow through metal detectors to ensure order and efficiency.
  • Maintaining a calm, polite and professional demeanor during potentially stressful encounters with guests.
  • Assist guests about general inquiries and museum rules by representing the Museum and security staff in a professional and customer service-oriented manner

Required Skills
  • Applicant must have a base level understanding of email handling to send, receive and communicate through electronic mail.
  • Applicant must have the ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondences, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the museum.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals. Must be able to complete job duties using military time.
  • Ability to comprehend and understand detailed written or oral instructions. The ability to think critically and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Educations and/or Experience
  • Applicant must have a high school diploma/ GED equivalent and the ability to complete the required security training for the position. General in use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook). Excellent customer service attitude and related experience is required.
