What is an impact litigation attorney?

Impact Litigation Attorneys are lawyers who focus on cases that have the potential to create significant legal or social change, often beyond the interests of a single client. They use strategic lawsuits to challenge unjust laws, policies, or practices, typically in areas like civil rights, environmental justice, or public interest. Their work often involves complex legal research, coalition building, and advocacy to create lasting change through the court system.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an impact litigation attorney?

To thrive as an Impact Litigation Attorney, you need strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills, typically supported by a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and bar admission. Familiarity with legal research databases (such as Westlaw or LexisNexis), case management systems, and sometimes specialized certifications in civil rights or public interest law are highly valuable. Outstanding oral advocacy, strategic thinking, and a passion for social justice help attorneys excel in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively challenging systemic issues, advocating for marginalized communities, and driving meaningful legal and policy change.

Job description

Criminal, Civil, Family, and Personal Injury Litigation Attorney – Northern Nevada

Make an impact where it matters most.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated Criminal, Civil, Family, or Personal Injury Litigation Attorney to join our legal team serving Northern Nevada. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney who enjoys courtroom advocacy, values public service, and is looking for a practice that offers both professional challenge and meaningful community impact.

In this role, you will represent clients in a diverse practice, handling cases from initial evaluation through trial and appeal. The position provides substantial courtroom experience, independent case management, and the opportunity to work collaboratively with a dedicated team committed to achieving fair and just outcomes.

Northern Nevada offers a unique legal practice unlike those found in larger metropolitan areas. Our service region includes both growing urban communities and expansive rural counties, allowing attorneys to develop broad litigation experience while serving residents with diverse legal needs. Many of our clients come from rural and historically underserved communities, including individuals who would otherwise have limited access to quality legal representation. This work offers the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of indigent and vulnerable populations while strengthening access to justice throughout the region.

Responsibilities

·      Manage a caseload from intake through resolution.

·      Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.

·      Represent clients in hearings, mediations, depositions, settlement conferences, and trials.

·      Develop litigation strategies and provide practical legal advice.

·      Negotiate settlements and advocate effectively in court.

·      Build positive relationships with clients, opposing counsel, and the judiciary.

·      Travel periodically throughout Northern Nevada to serve clients in rural communities and appear in court as needed.

Qualifications

·      Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

·      Active membership in the Nevada State Bar

·      Experience in criminal and/or family litigation, including courtroom advocacy and motion practice.

·      Strong legal writing, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

·      Ability to independently manage a diverse caseload while working collaboratively with colleagues.

·      Commitment to professionalism, ethical advocacy, and public service.

Why Join Us?

·      Meaningful litigation with real impact on individuals and communities.

·      Significant courtroom and trial experience.

·      Opportunity to serve rural communities and expand access to justice for indigent populations.

·      Collaborative and supportive work environment.

·      Professional development and mentorship opportunities.

·      The chance to build a rewarding legal career while enjoying Northern Nevada's exceptional quality of life, outdoor recreation, and close-knit communities.

·      If you are a litigation attorney who is passionate about advocacy, values meaningful public service, and wants to make a tangible difference in the lives of Northern Nevadans, we encourage you to apply.

Compensation

·      Full-time position

·      Starting salary of $150,000+ per year, depending on experience.

·      Competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience.

·      Structured performance-based bonus program.

Benefits

·      Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.

·      Robust 401(k) retirement plan.

·      Paid time off.

·      Full-time, in-person position based in Reno, Nevada.
